I'm talking about the steel plates. The washers look shady, at best.

Find you a welding shop, most have scrap metal laying around that they will just give away, and if you have to pay its not alot.

Here's a link to my install of the steel plates for the rear seat adjustment.

Go to home depot and get the steel bar stock. cut it, drill a holes in each and install. it's very easy.

Probably 2 hours of work with the home depot trip included.
Good luck!

Just did this mod. Too easy! It took me longer to drill and cut my 3/8 inch thick bar stock then to do the actual install. I used a regular ratchet to do the front 4 bolts, and then I just raised the seat bottom out of the way and used an air impact wrench for the remaining 3 bolts. Very easy to do!

I would recommend anyone that wants to make the ride for passengers more comfortable, to do this mod.

As for safety factor, not an issue. And for the seat hitting me if I had a head on, I don't think so! The change is really minor, and my bolts still extend through the bottom of the body nuts.

Also, the seat folds down similar to before the mod.

Thanks for the write up!!

Just did this little mod last night with manual tools and am very happy with it. A few tips for the manual tool user:

Get the right tools!

The bolts are 18mm, the tire iron is 19mm or whatever SAE size. You run the risk of rounding the heads if you use the tire iron.

Use good AMERICAN tools! I busted two ratchet extensions. They did NOT say Chrome Vanadium on them. I'm sure they were piece of crap Taiwan or China.

You MUST use a Breaker Bar unless you are unbelievably strong. I borrowed one from a friend and it was just a 2' metal pipe that slipped over the end of the 1/2" socket driver. It's even better if you have two sizes, I used the long one to get them started, then a shorter one to keep them going (because there isn't enough room to move the big boy very much). The amount of leverage is amazing. Save your sweat.

Don't use 3/8" drive tools. You might bend, break, or snap them.

That bad boy in the middle is tough, you must undo the bottom 4 bolts and tilt up the seats to get good access (i used a couple 2x4s). Even still, with a breaker bar you don't get a lot of movement but you do get some. Keep at it!

When adding the washers, tape them together with a little masking tape so they'll stay together. Otherwise they tend to slide all over the place.

I will say I struggled for about an hour and a half with the wrong tools. Once I got the right ones, took about 45 minutes or less.

In the end, the seat is tilted back a few degrees and is much more comfortable. Since I want my family to go with me on trips, this was a very cool mod. Thanks OP!

Nice simple mod, great find.

One thing I wanted to double check, nothing changes with the fold down function of the seats?
