Thanks Ronjenx for the pics, really helped locate my PCV. My experience with PCV valves is either they work or don't work. I pulled mine tonight and discovered the plunger moves and does not bind but it does not cut off the negative ventilation. I usually check this by sucking and blowing on one end, hope that comment does not come back to haunt me....beer . Anyhow, mine did not cut out but allowed ventilation both ways. I would assume that would mean it is bad, right?

Possibly. And it is cheap enough of a replacement part to just go ahead with the swap.

It restricts flow under high vacuum situations, but doesn't entirely cut it off. You may not be able to perceive the difference without a flow meter.

Go here to see what's inside it:

Default Pita...

Wow! For such a little part, what a pain in the butt!!! I got it changed, but not before breaking about 10 zip ties, shredding my knuckles, and hitting my head on the hood a few times! I ended up just pulling it straight up with vice grips and finally got it out. It was easy to seat the new one with the socket trick that was recommended. Thanks guys!

I can't imagine why it would be stuck so hard.
The thing about prying with the pliers is, if the zip tie breaks, there would be no sudden knuckle-busting hand movement.

ronjenx, great right up................just did mine and most of what you wrote worked like a charm..............zip ties broke but all in all the method is sound.

A few things I noticed about the valve:

It was slipping inside the rubber sleave that it has on it (old one) and a noticeable amount of oil around it. Could be the oil eating factor most talk about. I will see if that helps the issue by putting in a new one. There was oil residue in the hose so a least some oil has been getting through.

Many thanks again

Bob

I'd do it now. I'll be changing mine every 30k, which will give a safety margin.

I only found it at the dealership. Heck, auto stores near me don't even carry JK air filters.
