I just hacked mine off on the bench grinder. I'll squirt it black eventually, but for now it's fine.

i got mine yesterday, actually. took about 30 seconds to put it on. the original antenna was pretty much coming off on it's own --i guess it was vibrating itself loose.
anyway, the new one is on nice and tight. i got the 8in one, btw. pretty spiffy looking.
i dont notice any difference on reception either... and i listen to the radio pretty much whenever i drive.

I installed the 8" and love it! My stock antenna was hitting the driving lights mounted on my windshield, so this works perfectly as it stops just short of the lights. I think that my AM reception may be a little worse, but that could just be my imagination.

yes it is. i was driving through I-95 and every time I went under an overpass the signal would cut out.

my FM reception is quite a bit worse, with the 14", than it was before. all the radio stations i listen to are about 60 miles away, but i have noticeably less reception now.

I'm too cheap to spend the money on a new antennae, so I chopped my stock one. Unfortunately it looked unfinished, so I grabbed the section that I'd cut off, clamped it in a vice, and grabbed the little ball on the end with vice grips and twisted it off. I ground the end of the short antennae down so the ball would press on, put a dab of epoxy on it, and hammered it into place. I sanded the whole thing and sprayed it flat black. Came out clean and stock looking. Best of all, it was free. Sorry for the crappy pic, it was dark out.
