You are correct, the front speakers are enclosed giving it a sealed woofer design. It bumps and those speakers would be great just by themselves but the sub I have just adds a whole new dimension to the setup. I love my 8 inch JL W3! I can actually feel it pound in my chest on certain songs due to the loud resonance. I love it!

The subwoofer stays playing no matter where you fade the front or rear. The amp uses seperate channels to power the subwoofer and controls it seperately. I am not kidding this stock infinity setup is not bad at all!

I think I just found out where the extra two channels went. I believe the powered sub is recieving a bridged signal from the infinity amp. If this is the case the sub is seeing somewhere between 100-200 watts, however the sub is still dual 2 ohm voice coils so if the amp was bridged it should be running at dual 4 ohm. So the other two channels may just be sitting there un-used.

This two extra channel therory is basesd on the fact that there are only six pairs of wires coming from the amp but the amplifier chips used have 8 channels total. Its posssible that they are just not used to keep the heat down.

Alright, I just thought it was a bit weird I was getting more bass from these front speakers. I am very happy with the system. I'm just look to get some more punch from the bass without having to crank the volume so high. Maybe I'll do something like you did.
I don't know if ill be able to wire up an amp, never done it before. So it seems like you just tap into the wires that are already back there. Could this cause some damage.

Great thread and thank you for researching this. Keep us posted.

JK,

Awesome reserch my freind, you went above and beyond on this one. So lets say two 500 watt total output amps are not created equal, it depend on Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), bandwidth, and impedance (ohms). Now for the tough questions, looking at the technicals on the PDF I can't quite figure out what the THD is on this amp, there are several percentages listed. Some are good and some are not, usaually you got a pretty good amp if you are around .01-.04 percent. It looks like the bandwidth is between the 20 -20,000 kHz range, so that's good and most DC amps are 4 ohms typical. Also where are you capturing the RMS wattage you stated, I didn't see that. Is there a way to measure output at the speaker wire leads with a multi-meter? Not sure if you have that capability. Also did you try to run the JL 8" off the factory speaker leads just for S and G? Just curious how that would sound considering the wattage on that channel. I know lots of questions. I appreciate the reserch and input, awesome thread.

On a seperate note I bought my Sahara Unlimited through ENCS too. Thanks for your service, you Air Force guys are awesome at giving us rides where we need to go. CJTF-7 Iraq Sept 03 to Apr 04 Navy Seabees

Cheers,

I ANSWERED YOUR QUESTIONS BELOW.

Awesome reserch my freind, you went above and beyond on this one. So lets say two 500 watt total output amps are not created equal, it depend on Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), bandwidth, and impedance (ohms).

These are listed differently because if you look at the chips features it has the ability to monitor and control the amount of distorsion amount other things. Its really cool I think. The question is what did infinity program the amp to run at. My numbers were all in the PDF. There was on one page the characteristics of the amp and one was listed at 75 watts RMS typ or typical. Its all there you have to thouroughly read it.

Now for the tough questions, looking at the technicals on the PDF I can't quite figure out what the THD is on this amp, there are several percentages listed.

There are several listed due to the control portion or programability of the chip.

Some are good and some are not, usaually you got a pretty good amp if you are around .01-.04 percent. It looks like the bandwidth is between the 20 -20,000 kHz range, so that's good and most DC amps are 4 ohms typical.

It all depends on the program that Infinity used for these amps. A call to them may yield more answers. The amps are stable and rated at 2 ohms. That is why all the speakers in our Jeep including the fronts and sound bar are 2 ohm loads!

Also where are you capturing the RMS wattage you stated, I didn't see that.

Read the PDF extensively. Its in there somewhere.

Is there a way to measure output at the speaker wire leads with a multi-meter? Not sure if you have that capability.

Dont have that capability although I am sure there is test equipment out there that will. I dont have any.

Also did you try to run the JL 8" off the factory speaker leads just for S and G?

Yes, I posted about this already. It sounded very good with just the infinity amp. I was pleased with it just with the new subwoofer.

I appreciate the reserch and input, awesome thread.

No problem, thanks for the kind words. I love doing this kind of stuff!

On a seperate note I bought my Sahara Unlimited through ENCS too. Thanks for your service, you Air Force guys are awesome at giving us rides where we need to go. CJTF-7 Iraq Sept 03 to Apr 04 Navy Seabees

I ran into a bunch of navy P3 ops guys and gals. Great group you Navy peeps are! I LOVE ENCS.com!!!! This is the only way to buy a vehicle, the no haggle and excellent price says it all.

Default Wrangler JK, modify sound system

Dear all,

I need your info, regarding the modification of sound system of wrangler jk 2008, since in my country, indonesia, many people said that i couldnt modify my sound system , since it will create a problem with the electrical system of the car, is that true.

I need to modify the sound system since the sound quality of the original sound system cant meet my requirement, so i need to put additional power amplifier , sub woofer and change my speakers.

Thanks

Many people have been saying that about all kinds of cars over the years. I remember my first new car. It was the first year of that model that had the "BUS" system that controlled everything by the computer. I modded my stereo and they said it could not be done.

The best thing for you to do is go to www.crutchfield.com and enter your vehicle. Then they will tell you what speakers you can use. Then if you want amplifiers call them and they can set you up with everything you want and ship it.

Good luck.

Can anyone tell me about the pre-amp level coming from the HU to the AMP... Can you use these leads as inputs to an aftermarket amp.. I know most amps can handle up to 4.0 volts.. ..
