That's cool. I definitely want to see that.

Anyone built a storage area to accommodate a spare tire?

I'm impressed with all I've seen on this thread. I keep changing my blueprint to best meet my needs, but found a product that is lighter than wood, structurally sound and is water resistant, rot and insect resistant and has no splinters for those of us not using carpet.

I scuba too much and too many water sports to deal with carpet and sand stuck in it. It's called komacel plus. Check it out on the web. I'll be making the frame from it as well.

I am planning on using track that allows single and double pole attachment hardware such as d rings, hooks etc. it allows many places for attachment points.

Thoughts? Anyone do something like this, or have insight as to why it may not work?

I'll be taking pics as I go and will post when I get started in the coming weeks.

I finally got around to doing this project.

I started with 2x8 but ended up cutting them to 2x6 with the frame built around my Basslink. To still have access to the interior in case the jeep was loaded up, I added 2 doors in front.

The carpet is deep black and doesn't quite match the carpet but might change it later on.

The hooks are bolted to the actual frame so they should hold just fine and the box has a bracket in the back and 2 inside to hold it firm to the floor.

I still have a couple of things that I still need to figure out, but for the most part its good to go.

Finally got around to making one. Didn't need it for the sleeping area, just a place to hide the junk in my "trunk". Wanted to be able to get to my stuff without having to remove everything that was on top. Used 1x5 for the sides and 3/4 plywood for the top. Still need to get carpet to finish it up but the hard part for me is done. Thanks everyone for the inspiration and great ideas.

Nice. I tried using plastic bins under mine too, but they shatter when it gets really cold. I ended up making wooden drawers.

Thanks for the heads up on the trays. Will have to see how they hold up. I was actually thinking of making a sliding drawer before I went with the trays. Maybe the next time around I will go that route and make it taller also. Although really with my setup I could do without trays all together. Just wanted it organized since before I made the storage area it was all scattered in the back with an old blanket to cover it up.

Question for everyone who has done this. Do you have access the rear LATCH for a car seat? I take my nephew from time to time and need to access those LATCH points.

I have not done this yet, but I imagine you could drill a hole to access the anchor. And maybe attach a short tether to bring it above the floor of the storage unit, that way you'd have easy access.
