I was stationed at Ft Wainwright for 3 years and I'm getting stationed there again. I'll be there next Thursday as a matter of fact. Battery blankets are give or take. You could also put a pad under the battery instead or use a trickle charger. All of them work fine but not necessary unless you have a liquid battery and then only when it gets REALLY cold. The small heating pad on the oil pan, I highly recommend and you might want to consider one on the tranny pan too if you have an automatic. As far as the block heater, it is a NECESSITY in Fairbanks. Just leave the car parked outside at 30 or 40 below overnight without one and see how easy it is to start the next morning. Anyway, stay in touch and when I get back from Afghanistan we can go hit the trails.

Changing your diff fluid is a really good idea, also think about running synthetic motor oil if u havent done so. And cold weather power steering fluid might help as well. As far as the oil pan heater is concerned a small voltage one is a really good idea, i have a block heater oil pan heater and battery pad, but im also running dual optima yellow tops so the pas is only under one battery but it always starts up. People up here run soft tops year round so dont worry about a hard top liner u dont really need it unless you want one. Jus get a house with a garage hahahaha

Yea were gonna try to get on base housing so I hope some of them do have garages haha. We were looking st phone carriers for up there and Verizon seems to be the best besides ACS. We are with Sprint now and it looked like they don't even have service up there until you zoom in really close haha

Yes......most shipping will pretty much eat you alive. Get used to it as they pretty much treat you like you live in a 3rd world country. Pissed me off big time. That's why I've just resigned myself to making my own bumper......one of these days.
