Getting stationed in Ft. Wainwright AK in the next 6 or so months
Hey all i just wanted to introduce myself, me and the wife are getting stationed there. we are really excited and are really looking forward to the move. Im going to try and go to school at UAF and the wife is a active duty nurse. if anyone can give me some pointers i know its cold as shit up there and im going to be preparing the jeep between now and when we leave. She hasn't received her orders yet but they will be coming and supposedly the lady gave us a time frame between now and May. Thanks ahead of time for all the help and i look forward to wheeling with yall.

Howdy..... My daughter is going to school at UAF right now. She said it already snowed the other day. Yes it can stay at -20 up there for weeks on end. Does your JK have some sort of block heater? Alos I would change the diff fluids to synthetic.....I did it a few years back and it made a big difference. Good Luck...!!!

Kool UAF seems like a pretty good school I can't wait to get started back up again. yea I saw where it had already snowed I can't wait lol. The block heater I have to get along with a battery blanket I guess that's what they call the thing. I thought about getting some of the hot head liners for the hard top.

You may also want to forgo the batter blanket as well. They can be more trouble than they're worth. I've even heard of them shorting out and frying batteries. You really don't need one if your jk is all tuned up well and starts easily. You really don't even need the block heater, as far as starting up, but it just helps out the engine so much it's really a good thing to have. If you want to do something else besides the block heater, a very small, low voltage, oil pan heater is really nice. You just silicone it to the bottom of the oil pan and wire it in with the block heater. By the way, most of us use timers with the block heater. No reason it needs to be on all night. Just a couple hours in the morning before you leave. Remember, if you get an oil pan heater, make sure it's a real small, low voltage one. You don't want to cook the oil either.....just warm it a little.
Also, remember what I said about changing the diffs over to synthetic. It REALLY made a difference when it gets down below -20F or so.
HA...!!! I do too. I'm a HAM radio operator, and whenever I make contact with someone in TX, I kiddingly start out the conversation with.....Hello there, how are things down there in the "SECOND" largest state in the union. I usually get a laugh.....

Yes, UAF is a VERY good school. They've gotta make it good so people would put up with the winter up there.......lol.
