Don't know if this is true or not but it makes sense. I've been wanting a synthetic line for my winch.Maybe I can use this as an excuse. Think my wife will buy it?

I think I'd get the synthetic line, and keep the steel line around in case I ever needed an extension...although I think getting a portable winch anchor would be a better solution than an extension, since the trees up there always grow really skinny and there's usually no shortage of mud or snow to sink the portable anchor into.

I'll have to look into some portable anchors. I would be kind of nervous myself with a cable then a synthetic line in that type of weather being so cold. I want synthetic anyways a lot safer no matter how you look at it IMO

Yes, I feel synthetic is the way to go as well. But understand, it has to get REALLY cold, (the kind of cold you don't want to be out in), for steel to start getting that brittle.

So we have 6 and a half weeks left until we start our journey up north first stop on our list is Vegas, then Moab, Yellowstone, then there is a glacier park in Montana that we are going to go to as well
