I've been qouted labor 250 per axle with Johnny at Muscle Mods, he does gears for all vehicles and has done a couple jeeps, he did the axle rebuild on my brothers f-350 and has been running smoothly. as for gears and intall kits the best deal i seen is from Northridge.

JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJA

Sorry dude, I just couldn't hold it... I don't know why, my JK, adter the gear work (and spyntec manual hub) conversion did pick up on the city milage, but not on the highway. overall I spend the same in gas, with the big difference that it doesn't jump bakc and forth from OD to 3rd gear, now it does launch on traffic lights like a decent mortal car (nah, not really, but it improved).

I've been told it is because of the wheel tire combo I have are TOO DAMN HEAVY , which I doubt. Anyway, Jeeperos in Mexico have a saying: Jeeps often are worth more because of the gear they have on them than Beamers, Jags or Mercedes. Though you will not get their milage, nor their comfortable suspensions, nor their handling, nor their freezing cold AC. Call me crazy, but I will stay with my Jeep.

in my pre-gear era, with a light foot on the gas pedal and with a ton of patience I had MUCH BETTER mpg than after the gear job with a not so mild foot. Just letting you know... those are my 2 cents...

comment on getting the gear job done. Since the RGV is just on the border, have you considered having the labor done in Mexico? Don't get me wrong, even though labor is cheap, you can still get superb quality quality jobs done if you spend the time researching the shops that can do that kind of things. I personally have ALL modifications done and maintained in Monterrey, a good friend of mine owns a 4x4 specialized shop (in my opinion one of the best in Mexico) and they do some SICK mods... OK, re-gearing is something critical that needs tons of attention and experience, but changing gears is done everywhere, everyday. Making it possible to find someone to do the job. and those were my other 2 cents...

by the way, thanks on the compliments on my JK. Hey, when ever you guys arrange a meet or something, keep me in the loop. Though a bit far, I will try to drive over and meet you fellows if OK with you.

Have a great weekend! tomorrow is cliff climbing day in Laredo!
