1st time wrangler owner - build thread
I am loving your build. I also just bought a '12 JKU Sport. Mine is Blaze red, 6 spd, soft top and I have the 225/75x16 with the crappy wheels and 3.21 gears. I like the black paint on them and I might do that as well, at least it will look different. I plan to do 33's to make it look right, and then save for a 3.25 inch lift, 35's, gears, and new front drive shaft. Keep up with this thread and we can't wait to see those wheels on it.

I install the tires on Saturday. I'll let y'all know how it drives with the current gears and tranny set up.
Also got my first jeep late last year, 2012 JKU sport. In case you haven't heard (I haven't read every post), get yourself a AEV procal when you mount the 35s. It makes a huge difference. I think the 3.21 auto is very livable after getting the procal dialed in. Make sure you measure the tire on the ground, my "35s" are actually 33.5. I played around with entering 34 and you could feel the difference (worse) than when entered in correctly at 33.5".
Having said that, I am scheduled for regearing and adding lockers next week just bc I want to push it a little more on the trails. Awesome to start building right away. Looking good.

When I went to aev's website, I mostly gathered that the procal corrects the speedometer. Does it also change shift points. If it only corrects the speedometer then I'm prob not interested. I have a gps that can give me actual speed.
When you say it makes a huge difference what do you mean?
Thanks!

Huge difference means when I step on it my Banks air intake roars but the car doesn't go anywhere. When I have it calibrated it actually moves (not seat of your pants), relatively speaking. Before I bought one it was extremely sluggish and when I had it set wrong at 34" it was sluggish but that .5" correction now makes it livable and you can at least beat a prius off the line. Worth the $129. You won't regret it. Also if you ever regear you will need it to program in the new gears.
Note: you cannot borrow someone else's since it is specific to vin., haven't tried though. Beware of getting them used since they have to reset their rig to default before it can be plugged into anther vehicle.

Good job!
Here are my DIY fenders. My favorite DIY so far.

I've thought about cutting my own and have read a lot about it and watched many YouTube videos about it.
I'm still on the fence though.
After you cut your own, are they flimsy?
It seems like they would flap in the wind since you cut off so much supporting plastic and they're open so they catch wind going down the hwy. am I incorrect in assuming that?
Also, when I took a reciprocating saw to my front bumper my line wasn't perfect but it was ok bc I was going to cover it with a cap. I'm afraid I would f*ck up a cut and end up having to get tube fenders after all.
I really wish there were some (experienced) jk-forum folks that lived around me that I could get face to face advice/help from.
