20's on 2 dr
I always live by the rule of thumb that the rim size should be no more than half of the tire size
...but that being said I am a VERY active wheeler, so I just do that for protection purposes ....but I think everyone is entitled to do with their Jeep what they wish
.........except paint it hot pink like someone i've seen in NC
thats just not right

thats just not right Do you plan to wheel your Jeep? If so, then why spend all of that money to penalize yourself with a less than optimal wheel/tire combo? Small rims with more rubber to protect your rims when wheeling with low tire pressure (10-15 psi) are much better than larger rims (which isn't to say that a few don't successfully wheel the combo you're considering).
If you don't plan to wheel your Jeep, but you're going for "looks," then you've probably learned in this thread that most folks consider a Jeep to look proper, even if it's never used for more than mall crawling, when it has proper gear for rock crawling. I'd estimate that nine out of ten forum members would go with the 50% rule for appearance: Your wheel should be close to 50% of the size of your tire. And remember: A 35" tire is really about one to one-and-a-half inches smaller than a true 35"; the rim will be slightly larger than its stated size. So erring to the slightly smaller size is best: 17" tires on 35" wheels.
Bottom line: It's your Jeep. If you prefer the Hollywood look, go for it. But most folks on this forum are more interested in the rock crawler look and performance.

If you have 35''s that measure 33.5 then you got fucking robbed at the tire shop... and if you buy 20's and they are actually 21 then they wont on a r20 wheel...
your asumptions are stupid dude... yea you might get a .5 varriation on a 35'' tire depending on make but rim size is nearly exact (were talking .05 off) as a standard...
your 50% rule only works if you force your "well not actually going to be the right size" formula and round down to make it work for you... so its not really a rule if it doesnt make sense...
it also seems like your pushing the whole... "rock crawling is what a jeep is for" and "offroad means rockcrawling" which is not the case for alot of us... I have no rocks to climb around on but I still have a jeep...
your also saying its such a waste of $$ and its going to hurt his abilities offroad... but he is actually going to have a good deal more sidewall then his stock wheels with much better offroad tires... I dont think thats hurting him at all... maybe its not AS amazing of a setup as you would get... but its not hurting him... and not wasting his money if its what he wants....
I have big blingy 18" wheels on my JK. The girls love them. Its all good, cause I don't wheel. Mall crawl baby.

oops... wrong photo!!!! I meant this:

Like said above... big wheels are just not acceptable on the trail!!! The sidewalls are much to tiny unless you have 54" tires. You must run 15s unless you mall crawl like me.

hahahahaha ohh man...
This whole debate is soo heated back and forth...
whats sad is... I have been saving up to go 18's (not even 20's) on 35's for like 2 months.. and I just cant keep money in my damn pocket :( I am going to end up with 15's on 35's due to $$ constraints and then everyone can yell at me for being a hypocrite!! hahaha
and well I dont know how what I said is not related to this...
you say there is not alot of sidewall... I pointed out that there is more then stock so its still an improvement...
you said if you dont off road you will be fine... I pointed out that alot of people do offroad with less sidewall on 20's or less...
your whole statment came off pompus... if thats not how it was intended then I apologize for misunderstanding. I figured you were one of the many who was bashing the guy for being a little different...
And I do not have my mind made up at all... I wanted 20's on 35's now I am looking at 18's on 35's and I might due to $$ constraints be rocking stock 17's with spacers on 35's hell I have considered because its soo much cheaper... to go 16's on 35's I just am not a fan of the look really and my truck spends more time on the road then on the mud (wish it was the other way around but gotta work and pay the bills somehow)
anyway I have no real care which way anyone decides to go... I was just tyring to play devils advocate and because there was so many "haters of 20's"
out there I may have gotten too one sided for the OP underdog... Oh well
I still love you all you jeeping mofo's hahaha Cant we all just Jeep Along ?
yes. yes. i know. i never got so much sh*t about my 20's with no lift till i joined this site but i love them and feel like they fit the look i was going for. low and wide. look at Mopar's Lower Forty for christs sake.
however i have been thinking of putting on new lift/suspension when i get the $$. always a debate.

....but really I like your Jeep
OK...I wont hate the 20's. But, the ROCKSTARS ARE UGLY. Not ugly in like a "well not my thing, but I could see how people like it." But, ugly in a "look at me I have a star on my wheels." They just look so gay. I also don't get the fad with having 5-point stars tatooed everywhere on your body, especially biceps. Sorry if you have them, but it looks bad...you don't play for the Cowboys, the stars on a guy fad is weird.
