There really is no better money you can spend than gears. Excuses for not regearing when going with bigger tires are just that - excuses. I'm on 33s and run 4.88s. My JK is eminently more capable off road now than it would have been with 35s being turned by factory gearing.

I love the crawl ratio with RubyDoo now with her 35's and 5:13's and the deal i got for them is next to impossible for most anybody to get.

Yes I believe re-gearing would be better, however I'm in the same boat as many on this board with factory gearing. If opening the diffs, might as well save and do lockers at the same time. And myself being an ARB addict (had em in my last jeep), it's going to take a little longer to save that kind of $$.

Default 35 Gearing

I'm running 35's on my Rubicon automatic with stock gearing and no problems.

4.10s, and I get 100ft above sea level when I'm lucky. I can go 80 in 6th gear, but can't accelerate fast. I can still start in 2nd gear, but it requires a lot of clutch so I don't. It has enough power with the manual that I can go from 2 to 4 to 6, which actually does save a lot in mileage. I get 17 in town, 19-20 on the highway. I only go about 65 on the highways now though, because going faster makes the mileage drop precipitously. At 80, I get closer to 13mpg due to air resistance.

No problems doesn't equate to optimal performance.

Your Rubi came with 32" rubber and 4.10s. You need 4.88s just to break even.

I have an auto X and am running 35s without regearing...Like several here I don't want to regear until I get something other than the 30 in the front and then I will be getting 37s...it works fine off road with the 3.73s (in 4Lo), but could use the gears on road...

i kinda disagree with that chart as far as the auto goes. my buddy has 4.88's with 35's and i have the 4.10's. i get better gas mileage and mine is real good at speeds up to 55. a little sluggish after that. i'd say a regear isnt necessary with 4.10's and the auto.

Hey guys I don't wanna hi jack the tread but my 07 Sahara Unlimited with a 6 speed is only running 3.21 gears (I bought it when I didn't know a damn thing). I've arranged to get it lifted in two weeks and am planning to throw 35"s on it. According to the chart that was posted I am just making it in under the wire so I definitely plan to re gear. Can someone tell me what I need to replace to do this or point me in the direction of a thread? Thanks. Once again sorry wasn't tryin to hi jack just figured since we're all hear discussin the very same thing I'd ask
