If I got a house, I'd also have to get a nanny because I work in Cali and live in NH on the weekends. I can't move to Cali because of joint custody so I'm stuck up in the air, literally. We do have a house picked out and I can probably do both if my bonus comes through. Has anyone else done a similar build and if so, what did it cost?

I'm sorry to hear the trouble you're going through at the moment....

But to answer your questions, give dave at northridge4x4 a call and tell him what you'd like. He will come up with a perfect list for you

Dave's great, I got my snorkel through him. I've got about about 7 grand in extras so far but does anyone know if there are any places in the northeast that do the hemi conversion? I think RIPP is new Jersey, is the supercharger an option with 40s?

Default Yikes

Put 40K in the bank. Seriously a jeep is not a wise investment. Granted it is fun but I personally could not do that. Put 40k aside for college education, house down payment (in the future), braces (for the rugrats), RRSP (Do they have those in the US? any way retirement fund). Or do two birds with one stone spend some on the jeep and put the rest in the bank. I am not trying to sound like a dick but I can almost guarantee that 10 years down the road the Jeep will be gone and you will look back and have some regrets. But it is your money your choice, just trying to help out. Sorry to hear about the other stuff.

you are a great group of guys to give such great advice on life when I was looking for advice on my jeep Seriously though, although unfortunate in love, my financial situation has greatly improved over the past 3 years. My base salary has doubled in 3 years with a 25% annual bonus. I already contribute 15% of my salary to 401K retirement but its probably a good time to start a few college funds (my kids are 4 and 5). I dont mind spending money but I hate to waste money so I don't want to dump money into the jeep and not be happy with it. You have all given some very good advice. I only wish the hemi conversions would come down in price because I do miss my hemi (tough transition going from a 300c with a hemi to a Jeep with 3.8 liter)

on the axles, it just seems that with gears, sleeves, gussets, ball joints and whatever other upgrades everyone eventually does, that new axle assemblies are the way to go. I already had to replace my ball joints and that ran me 900 bucks.

????????????????????????????????????? Priorities............

Ok.....take $10k and spend it on your Jeep then use $30k for a home....whether it be a rental or a purchase. Your kids need a place to call "their home"

just my 2 cents

My $17.5K in a stock dividend reinvestment plan wrapped in a UGMA custodial account for each child's college education. A broker can set the the accounts up. $5K on the Jeep.

Reminds me of a guy I worked with that had a son going to technical school to get an Associates degree in HVAC. The guy owned a young cutting horse mare that showed a lot of competitive promise. He was planning to send the mare off for training. Guess which one was going to cost substantially more. ..... Yep, the mare.

Like I said, just my as an adult you do what you want.
