I had mine done at a local body shop. My dealer said AEV did not want to ship it painted due to possible damage during shipping, plus I had to show them where I wanted the black.

Default AEV Hood + Hood Lift kit problem

I Received the AEV hood - Paint cost 100 US $ .

I have one problem I'd like to share with you guys.
I installed the hoodlift kit (Part #93111 specific for the AEV hood) on my 2012 JK.

The install was done 100 % correctly and as per instructions. Measurements were taken and cross checked multiple times, so no problems there. After installing the shocks on the brackets (fat part up and shock rod down) I noticed that the shocks seriously pull on the body side (cowl) hood hinge and pushing the entire hood forward. This is very visible with the hood closed as the gap between the hood and the cowl noticeably increases.

When lifting and closing the hood everything is clear and operates smoothly. But when closed it's as if the shocks are too strong, pulling on the cowl and pushing the hood forward. I had to remove the shocks and seek your advice. (All my CJs and YJs were equipped with hood lifts . Never a problem).

It's as if the JK hood hinges are too flimsily attached to the cowl.

Saw the question earlier but no answer, anyone have the hood insulation under their AEV hood? Seriously want one of these but would like to reuse the insulation from my new jeep cuz it'll be brand new...

There are no attachments for the insulator that comes with the factory hood. The factory hood has little leg like pieces that the insulation slides into to help hold the sides in place and then there are push through grommets. I had planned on putting this on the AEV hood also but did not after seeing there were no attachment points, not to mention you would have to trim it from around the mesh in the hood scoop as water would sit on it and over time would destroy it. It could be done with some drilling and cutting of the insulation (drilling holes in the hoods underside for push grommets) as I drilled my hood for the footman loop and bumpers.

Quadratec will paint the hood for you, but I pre-warned anyone looking to get this painted and shipped that I would rather get it unfinished and have a reputable paint shop in your town do it. Mine was damaged when it arrived and the paint did not match my Jeep. My Jeep only has 1400 miles on it so it's not like it was bleached from the sun yet For the same price you would pay to have Quadratec send it out and paint it for, your local shop will be in the same price range, and if anything happens, the shop is in your hometown and it's easier to get it fixed. Mine is going to be refinished here where I live and I am supposed to get reimbursed. If I could do it all over again, I would have gotten it unfinished and had it done here. Just trying to save you a headache!!
