Not the greatest place to mount it. It is going to get ripped off when you come off an obstacle.

Perhaps...but it'll take out my receiver hitch & exhaust tip at the same time. the pic may not show it too well, but it's tucked against the rear bumper tight. If I come off something with that steep of a drop at a 90' angle...then I deserve it. ;-)

It's the only place I've got to mount it on the exterior that's feasible. I've got no room on the front bumper...the hood is out of the question for me...and I can't see spending $1000 for a rear tire carrier (that I don't need)...just to get a Hi-Lift mount. It works for me.

Can you take some close up pictures? Did you have to drill the stock bumper, or did you use existing holes? How long were the longer carraige bolts you used?

Sorry for so many questions--I'm thinking of doing this install...more details would save me time
Thanks

I used 3" carriage bolts with 2 nuts on each (to space out the jack). I also used 4", grade 8, hex head bolts to bolt the mounts to the bumper (with grade 8 nuts & washers)

To flatten out the ends of the carriage bolts, use dremill tool with a circular grinder bit to flatten out a section of threads....then use a drill punch to start your drill location & drill out the hole for the padlock...it's actually pretty easy.

You will have to drill 8 holes through the bumper....placement is key. On the right side, the holes are near a permenantly welded nut location, so make sure not to drill too close to this....I just eye-balled it & got it right the first time.

Then, dremill out the plastic bumper so the mounts have room.

I'll try & take some close up shots tomorrow.

Would be scared of denting hood if it slipped while removing or putting it back on, happy with it mounted on rear bumper where it is easy to access and wont damage anything if it slips. Nice idea though

I would be worried about scratches to the hood taking it off and on ? It is pretty heavy and one slip = dent /scratch

Nice pic's.. I have the mount kit too.. Only problem with mine is.. Bestop put the trailer hitch in the middle of the bumper.. Right where I would mount the Highlift..!!

I could do it.. but would have to have the Highlift OR the hitch..!!
