Default Bulging rear Coil

Looks like my passenger side rear coil is bulging, not seated or possibly bent/broken. It doesn't look broken to me but I will get a better look tomorrow at it. It just looks like maybe it is not seated correctly after a 4x4 trip and that it needs to be shifted back into place, My question is before I try this, will the coil go back to normal? It seems like if it is in this position the coil would be ruined permanently. You can see a solid difference in ride height and at the bump stop and block on the lower frame. So before I do the driveway pain in the ass coil swap, I'd like to know if I should have new ones on hand. These only have about 50k max on them. I replaced them fairly recently. OME HD Coils

Even though I have replaced my control arms (factory) recently, I always keep an eye out for new ones on the forum and CL. With all the new model Jeeps out now I have no idea what fits the 2008 JK. Im seeing pull offs from 2020 diesel JL's ect and they are tempting because they are all brand new. So what's my model and year range to look for control arms? I have to new shocks anyway because I am due. The rear coils may have to get replaced and I figured if I can find a good set of new control arms I would do them too.

Maybe it's the angle of the picture, but it almost looks like that top coil is compressed and it's sitting off center a good bit.

I don't have info on what fits and what doesn't (though I believe the JL stuff is a good bit longer) so I too keep my eyes out for factory arms being tossed out. Mine end up banged up a good bit.

I would not say that is out of place. Zooming in on the picture it seems you can see the factory isolator on top of the spring, and you can see through the hole that it looks like it is centered, but I'm working with a single pic. I have gotten a spring out of place after really hammering on it before. When they do get out of place they 1) are not ruined, and 2) don't just go back into place by themselves, even if fingers are crossed for a while .

take pic with your the other spring as well. is that one considerably different? what i did notice is the bottom pigtail of the spring is facing forward. is the other one as well? I've always positioned those to the rear, though that might not be 100% correct.

I wouldn't stress about those control arms at all if I were you, assuming that is what I sent you. I know the jeep those came off of and they came off early. I can't imagine those joints are compromised at all, and that is the only reason to worry about factory arms. Given the JL/JLU has a longer wheelbase, I'd think those arms wouldn't be direct fits, though interesting to see. Almost all "does this JL part fit my JK" threads end in a big womp womp outside of the hood latches....with a little modification.

Ok I will try and pull the coil tomorrow and recenter it back in place. They are your control arms. Low miles but always looking for one backup set just in case but I figured maybe just piece one together from Rock Auto. AC Delco is $230 for all 8.

It appears you have a lift and your spring perch is tilted back because of it. That causes the springs to bow, and is most notable on the passenger side. Often it is enough to make contact with the trackbar. Solution for taller lifts is to cut off the perch and weld it back on top of the axle tube. An alternative for smaller lifts is a correction pad. That's what I have used ...

It's not that bad as I've seen worse. I think the lower coil spring has shifted slightly, you may need a retaining setup to force the coil back into the correct orientation on the axle perch

Mark are you saying that the spring perch is bent or broken perhaps? I have been running this exact same lift no issues since 10k and it has 196k now. Never had this issue. I did just get back from a 4x4 trip. I'm thinking something just shifted as a one time freak occucrance? My plan is to drop the axle, pull that coil, check for damage or bends and then reinstall it. There may not be a way to know if the coil is permenantly damaged or not. It would just suck to have to put it all back together, then order new rear coils and have to do the job all over again. I guess I can see if I could pick them up locally before I start the job that way I am covered all around.

If I rent a retaining setup from a local Autozone or similar, would condensing the spring allow me to not have to drop the axle and save all that time and effort? This could be the smarter way at least to see what I am dealing with. I do have a new set of shocks to put on anytway so I'm there.......

This might be correct. Spring may have moved or twisted looking at position of pig tail on lower mount.
