ESP/ BAS came on won't turn off
So, about 3 days after putting some new 255x85R16 tires on my JK, my ESP/BAS and ABS lights came on after braking really hard on the freeway. I don't have a lift and the steering wheel seems to be perfectly straight. The vehicle seems to handle fine, and I've driven probably ~80 miles since the light came on, but for some reason the pesky thing won't turn off. My dealership is incredibly slow so I'm hesitant to take the Jeep in unless I absolutely have to (3 separate trips @ 3+ hrs each just to replace a blinker light has me pretty annoyed with my service dept). Any suggestions?
This was posted on here awhile back. It may sound dumb but it worked for me twice.
Start the Jeep and turn the wheels all the way to the right and left then turn off the Jeep. Restart the Jeep and take it for a drive when it gets to second gear it should turn off.
I have an auto and sure enough it work. My guess is that it has something to do with the clock spring in the steering wheel and by turning the wheel all the way left and right it must somehow reset it.
Update:
I found the post this is what it says:
"A fix for this that came from My Girlfriend.
My girlfriend has a little mercedes kompressor that would do stuff similar to this and when my JK unlimited did it, she said go out (and this works) to the jeep, turn it on, turn wheels all the way left, then all the way right, then turn off. then turn on and drive. upon shifting to second it will go off. I swear to GOD it worked. I was floored."

after further inspection, if the alignment shop actually turned the tie rod on the left side in stead of using the adjuster on the right would this set it off? You can see where it looks as if vice grips dug into the metal and about an inch of the threads are exposed on the left side of the tie rod. Any ideas?

Both lights would come on after starting car. Was able to get the skidding car light off by pushing button twice. However, ESP/BAS light would stay on...took to dealer. Said steering clock spring bad. Had to wait three weeks since part on back order. Finally got it installed--problem solved to the tune of almost $400. Anyone else get ripped off like I did?? "It's a JEEP thing"... I don't understand!!!

Mine came on for the first time last week. I found that during the EVO gusset install, the bracket that holds the ABS sensor wire that threads through the knuckle bent slightly down allowing the wire to rub. THis caused a short from the wire to the knuckle. I caught it in time to elec tape it up and slide some wire loom over both sides for extra protection.
I read about this problem and had concerns prior to my lift and tire installation. It seems pretty common and is even discussed in the owner's manual along with instructions on how to disable it. Most people seem to be able to remedy the problem with a proper alignment with careful steering centering. I paid to have a professional alignment after my lift but after picking it up and driving a few blocks it was obvious the steering wheel was not centered properly. I decided to take my chances with it but a couple days later... sure enough the ESP BAS lights came on. No problem, I followed the sequences described in the manual and waalaa, lights off!
Since then I had a re-alignment and it's been fine ever since.
Doesn't seem to affect the drivablity once tripped but I did get some funky "clicky" feedback in the brake pedal prior. Feels like the Jeep is disagreeing with your driving style and trying to fight back. Freaks you out at first!
Seems to be somewhat of a challenge finding a competent alignment shop who know how to work on Jeeps. Teraflexplus finally got me straightened out (no pun intended).
