I've got 4.11 in my rubicon on 35s it is really no problem but I could see were 4.88s would be nice. I can still use 6th gear on the highway if I'm on the flat but tend to just stay in 5th as the engine seams to like the 3000 range.

Really hard to justify upgrading from 4.11 to 4.88.. If I had all the money in the world I would..

I have 6speed 4.10 with 35's and have lived with it since day one. I have managed and do fine most of the time. However, regearing would improve the jeeps perfomance tremendously. I couldnt imagine running 35's with anything less than 4.10 gears.

Originally had a 6 speed manual with 35's, 4.5in lift, and 4.11 gears. I regeared to 5.13s since I was up here in the Rockies and LOVED it. Now I got the 6.4L Hemi and don't need to worry about gears...

Since you have a manual, you can drive your Jeep with almost any gears and be fine. If you find yourself lacking in the power department, follow WOL's advice and go with 4.88s at a minimum and 5.13s for a bit more 'umph'.

Umh... do you understand what gearing is and how engines produce power? You're not adding any additional power to your engine with lower gears. Regearing is NOT a performance upgrade, like a turbo, supercharger, or even a CAI. Regearing simply lets your engine run faster for any given vehicle speed, where it is able to produce more power.

Running your jeep as a four speed manual on 35's may work for u. But it's not for everyone. For others it leaves something to be desired
I'm actually running it as a 3 speed auto. It runs the same output gear ratio on highway as 5.38 diff gears. Please tell me what you desire more than 5.38 gears without touching performance upgrades?

I know that I've driven a jk x model with 488 on 35's with open diffs that could easily idle over rocks where I had to use the skinny pedal to get my 321 over the same obstacle.

Then in sand the 488 were running in 4 high with no problem. I had to drop down to 4 lo just to be able to turn my 33's in the sand.

And in mud it's difficult but not impossible. Like I said, deffinetly IMO 321 leaves something to be desired.

You don't have to be a rude jerk. Also, according to you all of us that are regearing are wasting our time. Guess I'll call Northridge and tell em they tricked me out 500 bucks

I'm sorry you have such touchy soul.

In most cases, yes. If you really need 1st gear performance, then regearing will help as you cannot downshift from 1st gear (having to use 4lo vs 4hi is not 1 of them). For 2nd gear and above, you can use a lower gear. On street 1st gear isn't a problem as is. A lot of people here don't off road at all, so for them 1st gear is not a real concern. But, it's your money, so feel free to spend $1000, $1500, $2000 or whatever it costs you to regear. I'd rather put that money into a Rubicrawler or some other meaningful upgrade, like lockers.

First mod was gears, 'cause 3.21 6sp. Blew big time. In the city and on the trails. Hiway driving blew too, barely ever used 6th and even in 5th, a slight bump on the road and had to go down one (at least). Trail riding was absolute hole filling! And all this on stock 32 inchers!
If anyone is running 35" with 3.21 gears, I have one question for you: what was your first mod? Holes in the floor so you can help push it? Come on Fred, give her!

Let me paint a picture... IT BLOWS lol.. 3.21 gears are ok on flat road horrible on hills. As for off road again no power.

Pick up my jeep tomorrow with some brand new 4.88's and a Detroit in the rear. woohoo

Ok terminator, in the chart in the FAQ page it clearly shows optimal gear settings. Check out what it shows for my 2008 6 speed manual with 321 and 33's. Nowhere does it say down shift and you'll magically have 538's.

It appears that you are not driving a six speed manual, nor do you have 321 gears. And you are giving out misinformation. Bc anyone who is running the 321 and 33's manual will tell you it ain't ideal.

Idk why you would try and tell someone what they should do if your butt ain't in the seat of a 6 speed with 321 gears.

Even WOL said that if he has 373 he may be ok but might still want new gears. But I guess we are all wrong and you know what's best. And we just don't understand
