Man, I'm just inland from you in San Marcos and would love free beer and carne asada! Alas, I don't know how to change an inner seal. If I suggested taking it to a shop would I be eligible for free beer?

While I can't offer you any technical advice I'd be happy to help wrench and learn some stuff along the way. Holler at me if you put a fix-it party together and I'll BRING the beer!

Did you recently have any axle work done...new gears? I ask because the seals get damaged many times when installers are not careful.

The oil seals are inboard near the differential. It requires removal of your carrier. You can purchase special seal install tool or many guys make their own.

This isn't a write-up, but here are the steps involved:

REMOVAL
1. With transmission in neutral, position vehicle on hoist.
2. Remove brake components.
3. Remove wheel speed sensor from hub bearing.
4. Remove hub bearings with axle shafts from axle.
5. Remove differential cover.
6. Remove differential assembly from axle housing.
7. Remove inner axle shaft seals with a seal puller.
INSTALLATION
1. Remove any sealer remaining from original seals.
2. Install oil seals with Discs 8110 and Turnbuckle 6797. Tighten tool until disc bottoms in housing.
3. Install differential into housing.
4. Install hub bearings and axles.
5. Install hub bearing bolts through steering knuckle and tighten to 102 N·m (75 ft. lbs.).
6. Install wheel speed sensor.
7. Install brake components.

Any write ups on the "special" home made tool? I found it once, but can't find it now.
