I had the superchips tuner for a few weeks and I had the pinging as well, as soon as I put the stock tune back on it went away. Also if i tried to just coast in first gear it would lurch. I returned my tuner as well.

The pinging you are hearing sound like detonation. It comes from your timing being advanced too far for the octane level in the gas. Without the proper amount of octane the fuel burns too fast and hot. Detonation is very bad for engines.

I run the 91 setting, I had pinging once, and I noticed it just after a fill up, so I ran to the auto parts bought an octane booster, disconnected the battery, and no problems since. I would have tried the whole tow setting thing or even returning it to stock but I wasn't close to home (cause that's where the superchips was) and the auto parts was closer.

But the second I notice something I run for the octane booster, first. Sometimes the wife gets cheap and buys the gas at some lil gas station cause it's cheaper. But since then she's learned.

Sometimes you just have to buy better gas.
