Yeah me either but they were there when I bought the Jeep used.
I thought the bolt might be grazing too but no signs of contact.
Plus guys, these are clanking over tiny expansion joints and the like

He needs to check and ensure all the joint snap rings are in place. I had a few not seated correctly from MC. Another member here had the same issue which is what prompted me to check mine at install. I believe he heard a "clanking" which was the ring flopping around.

Just a thought...

 

Unfortunately no snap rings exist...factory arms on Rancho drop brackets.

Excellent ideas though guys.

All these things to check and it still seems it's a coil issue.

All I really did was replace existing 3.5" RC coils with 3.5" MC coils.

So nothing REALLY changed at all but the common denominator here

Silly question but I need to ask.... Are the stock coil isolators in place correctly?

 

Other things to check...

Check rear track bar bolt to see if it's hitting coil.

What if any C-Gussets? I have a combination of EVO and RK. My coils touch the gusset but they go not make noise.

Check each coil for wear. If they are hitting something it won't take ling to wear through the coating/paint that they are covered in. (smoking gun)

If any of this has been previously mentioned I apologize for the redundancy.

 

Yes sir...pulled the coils yesterday to triple check them....looked perfectly centered.

Just makes no sense other than the coils.

I suspect the part of the coils that are touching each other at the top have a tiny space between that clanks together when slightly more compressed?

That was exactly what I thought was going on with mine but it turned out to not be that.

 

I've learned to never say never, but it would REALLY surprise me if this is the case. The upper section of the MC coils has a VERY low spring rate. It is designed to fully compress with very little load. The idea is to lower the spring bucket for better handling and allow for the spring to stretch further and stay seated longer. Beyond a significant droop. My upper coil never moves. All ride rate and movement is in the lower section of the coil.

What shocks are you running? I have had a blown shock rattle....
