Old Man Emu shocks
They were good on and off road. Smooth, never leaked, never broke. I wouldn't say they were better than the Fox I'm running now, but they were better than the Bilsteins and ranches I've ever owned.
I'm not running them and I've heard a lot of great things about them on this forum, but my brother-in-law who builds off road race trucks (iron horse racing) assures me they are junk. Since shocks are a key component to his type of racing, I take his word for it. Him and JP magazine advise to invest in mono-tube shocks. OME are not mono-tubes. Their springs on the other hand, are probably why people love their lift kits.
To the OP,
If you're just looking for a fair priced "all around" shock, don't discredit the Rancho RS9000s. They are 8 stage adjustable and actually work quite well. They are softer that OME on their lowest setting, and can be made more stiff easily.
Craftsmanship is not as high as the OME's, but I've never seen them leak or fail. Plus they do some kind of money back guaranty

I would not install them on an off road race truck, neither would I install the Ranchero, Bilstien 5100 series, Fox 2.0 or any of the other popular shocks out there that are built for the JK platform. So in that regard would all those shocks be junk?
Racing trucks typically run coil overs paired with bypass shocks and can cost upward to $4k per corner and typically require quite a bit of tuning to make them function correctly.

Metalcloak uses them as an option in their suspension kits. That doesn't make them good or bad by default but it would tend to speak positively about their quality if a manufacturer who also makes shocks chooses to offer another manufacture's shocks as an option especially since they are not re-branded to a metalcloak label. I have had other offroad vehicles besides jeep and OME always carries a great reputation in their products.
This may not be a useful comment, but I've had the nitro charger sports for a few months. Great shock. My only complaint is that they are painted and the paint takes a beating. Lots of little rust spots. If I wasn't replacing them, I'd probably be a little more unhappy about it.
I have ran the OME on my last JEEP and loved them...more than the TeraFlex ones on it right now or the Rancho 5000 adjustables it is a great shock for the money and I got a lot of compliments about the ride quality on and off road without going to a really expensive coil over I don't think you can beat it for the money!
