My 2011 does this as well. I just don't top it up anymore. You'd think Crappler might make an effort to fix known issues on newer models.

I had this same problem until about a week ago. I took it to the dealer and it turns out that they extended the warranty on the filler neck check valve on all JKs manufactured in 07 and 08, I don't know what the deal is on other manufacture dates. This is a very recent fix, I think it went into effect Feb 1, 2013. Anyways got it fixed at no cost to me and the problem has stopped

This is the answer. My 2007 JK had this problem. The Jeep dealership replaced the parts at no cost to me.

When the orginal service bulletin came out, my '08 did not fall between the specified dates for the effected vehicles. One day, it all of a sudden started puking fuel at every fill up. Sure I could back off on the fuel lever and feather it to keep it from happening, but it should never happen regardless of what you do. Its a defective part and a safety issue. I took a video of it with my phone and stopped by the dealership just to ask some questions. They told me mine was not covered by the service bulletin, but would call Chrysler and see what they could do. When they called me back the next day, they told me that I would have to pay a $100 deductable to have the tank replaced. I said OK. When I picked it up, they said they had spoken with Chrysler again and there would be "no charge" and the repair was covered for 100k miles. Late last week I got the same letter that JK-Ford recieved, informing me that the repair is covered for lifetime.

For you guys that are having the issue. Go and talk your dealer and be polite. They didn't take me too seriously until I showed the video on my phone, but after that, they wanted to fix it for me ASAP. I'll bet you find out they will fix it for free without much fuss. Its too well of a documented problem for them not to adress it. According to the Service Manager, they had the same issue a few years ago with the Durangos. Mine was the first JK they had seen do it.

I got my letter today and it says that the dealership will fix this issue for free and it doesn't matter if you are over the 36k miles or three year warranty. Says they extended this warranty on this part for life.

Just got the new part in today...looks pretty easy to install....just two hose clamps. New flapper valve is nice and loose. Correct orientation and flow direction (duh) will be the most important thing to watch for....hmmmm does the flapper hinge go at the top or bottom or either side? I'll mark the oem piece and compare...

Got the new gas filler tube installed today, just took about 10 minutes.... be sure to disconnect your negative battery terminal, you will have the fuel system open, although not the pressurized side of things. I paid about $45 shipped for the part from http://www.allmoparparts.com/

The new OEM replacement part was totally different than my old '07 part... which BTW, does not have a check valve in it... The old one is just a straight through pipe. This might explain the overfilling issues. The new part has a one way flapper valve. Not sure if this has been mentioned on the forums yet. I installed the new part with the screw clamps facing down, which I think is the proper orientation for the flapper valve to work best (tested by me blowing through the tube & watching the actuation of the flapper etc.)

I'll report back if I get any further over-flow issues on my next fill up.
