Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought only the stock drive shaft has a boot.

If yours was stock, then I don't think you had a CV joint. Again, I could be mistaken.

Anyway, if you go from a stock-type shaft to a CV shaft, the pinion angle at the front axle should be reduced to just a degree or two. Don't set the pinion angle to zero degrees however because the needle bearings wont turn enough to distribute the grease.

Stock shafts use CV joints (Rzeppa?). The common atermarket CV joints are double Cardan.

I wasn't sure when I posted earlier, but I just visited half-dozen "answer" sites to check this out. They all say the same thing: CV is another name for Double Cardan.

AFAIK the stock shaft uses a standard U-joint at both ends. If the stock shaft used a CV/Double-Cardan the pinion shaft would not be parallel with the ground from the factory.

All nice drive shafts, but hypothetically speaking if one were to break one on the trail how common are the parts each of them use if I needed to replace. In other words, aside from catastrophic failure that requires a new entire shaft what other things should I consider. The obvious one are the u-joints. Anything else from a trail recovery situation?

I've made a lot of crappy decisions on what I buy for my jeep so now I just want to be sure I've done my homework.
