Pros and Cons of a Snorkel
Another con...you will lose a couple mpgs on the highway
My brother did a rugged ridge snorkel on his stock 2011 jk...he always puts the low mount air intake on unless he is planning on wheeling

im considering the Rugged Ridge intake also... I dont understand how he lost mpgs by giving the engine cooler air from outside the engine bay. Did he do any other mods at the same time he added the this intake? If this kit more restrictive than than my S&B CAI, then i might reconsider buying it.
I heard, if you put a hair dryer motor in the snorkel it acts as a poor mans super charger! J/k...personally, I think the biggest drawback to a snorkel is the false sense of confidence it gives you. Being more inclined to drive through a lake is just not a good idea. Flooded breather tubes, electronics, etc
I see in other threads that the snorkel only drops hp & mpg when used with supercharger. And it helps a small amount on N/A motor nothing noticeable. I don't see why the per-filter wouldn't help keep filter cleaner.

I have a aev snorkel. I'm not saying this is going to happen to everyone, because evidently it's not normal but I actually gained 2 mpg. And I figured that by hand. I will say that number is coming down and I'm down to 1.5 the last time I checked. I guess the computer is adjusting for the added/colder air flow.
I also enjoyed the improved engine sound as an extra bonus. It just sounds mean at full skinny pedal.
up here in canada we get stupid rain, snow and the worst is the wet snow with salt in it. plugs up filters quick. it turned my airaid filter dark brown on the bottom half. just hate to see my jeep sucking in that shit, even with my new pre filter on. I'm sure it helps big time, but a snorkel with a k&n filter would be more efficient i would assume. a wet, muddy pre filter can't be any better than a dirty filter on its own. in the summer i drive on a dusty forest service road too so that adds up too. even the bugs from the river, farms and lakes around here get trapped into my filter. i just had to blow it out with my air gun this past weekend and i cleaned my filter only 3 weeks ago i think. i will never submerge my jeep in any lake or river. maybe cross some small creeks or small rivers. the point is to keep my filter cleaner as well as my engine. even right now i change my oil every 5000km and thats will platinum synthetic oil. i want to keep her as clean as possible. thats one of the reasons its designed for. AEV seems to be the easiest install too and looks the best.
