I picked up a 12" 1/4 drill bit for the first step of drilling.

After drilling out the outter sheet metal with the unibit, I couldnt find an extention for the 1/2 unibit that would clear the outer holes. I used a 1/2 for the inner layers.
I probley spent $50 in new drill bits, but it was worth the money.

Pig. I've got these sliders coming at the end of this week. Where did ya get the 12" long 1/4" bit (looked on-line at Northern Tool and Craftsman)? Also am I reading that second statement correctly that the "inner" layers require a 1/2" bit? I'd like to be prepped, tool wise, prior to their arrival.
Thanks in advance!!

Edit; OK looked more closely at the Craftsman site and it appears that they DO have long 1/4" & 1/2" bits

I picked up 12" hitachi drill bit at Lowes, they also have the Unibit

Right, the 1/4 goes though all the layers, the 1/2" goes through the 3 layers and not the 4th inner layer. If I recall at one hole its only 3 layers.

I used the 1/4 first, then the 1/2" unibit.

the regular 1/2" drill bit was for the inner layers.

Hopefully this makes sense...

Check out this photo album, its pictures of the install, theres a couple pictures that in here that wont make sense. They changed the install procedure, basically the ones where it shows clamps ignore..

Thanks for the tips. Hopefully the install will get easier from here on out. Where can I get the plastic remover? Will it work on the fender/liner connectors that keep breaking? Can I get new plastic bolts for these?

I will be looking for a longer drill bit or two today.

most auto stores will have one.. My brother use to be a tech, so I borrowed his

btw, I never took off the inner fenders to install these. I think they want you to do that to insure you get enough sealant on the hardware...

if it we're me, I'd skip that part completely

I found that only 2 holes on each side had 4 noticable layers. The other holes had only 3 aparent layers. Use caution. It seems that the two inner layers might be very close together and feel like one when in fact they are 2. The inner layers are quite thick.

On the rear quarter panel do not drill the holes all the way through like the instructions seem to indicate. Only drill the outer layer for the nutserts, use a 3/8" bit.

I strongly recommend that Unibit!!!!!!!

You also might want to put some touch-up paint on the outer and inner holes to curtail potential rusting, especially on the bolt holes in the lower corner of the wheel well (extreme edges of the rocker guards)
