Pure Jeep Rocker install help
Pig...1 final (yeah like anything is ever final) question and it's regarding this "plastic pry bar". If I walk into Autozone or Advanced and ask if they have a plastic pry bar are they gonna give me the bums rush out the door? Since the one you used is your brother's I'm sure ya don't have a pic. How would you describe it? I've got a short, 6", Stanley metal pry bar. Is this thing just the plastic equivalent of that? Thanks in advance!

Pig...I have another "final" question. Ok got the sliders today, hardware checked out against lhe packing list, read your write up (in this thread), looked at all the PJ install pics in the "write-up thread", compared everything with the paper instructions and I'm good to go this weekend. Onto the question. Why black RTV? I mean it's no big deal to go and get the black but I've got a brand new tube of clear that, unless I'm thinking about it incorrectly, should work just fine. Tell me what I'm missing.
Finished the install this weekend. A few numbers to consider
4 weeks, start to finish. (well, I'm still waiting on 2 bolts from PJ, so 4.5 weeks and counting.) I'm a busy guy, but the four weeks isn't all on me.
12 missing pieces. Ordered from customer service and received in 2 days.
6 broken plastic rivets on rear fender liner before I realized I didn't need to remove it.
2 bolts too short. Stainless oval head bolts. Not your typical Lowes replacements. Fastenal will order them in 100 packs, about $75. Still waiting on the replacements from PJ
3 distorted interior plastic push pins. Bought plastic automotive tool. Other side has one perfect and two broken push pins. Discarded new plastic automotive interior tool.
6 Reamed holes on sliders. Six fender washers cut down to fit newly reamed holes that abut the rail plates.
Overall impression:
Packing - appeared good, but rubbing occurred on the rails. Missing many parts (and bag was sealed, so they weren't lost in shipping) Also, some parts incorrect. 5/10
Finish - nice color. Rubs off easily. One rail had two tennis ball size sections rubbed away to bare metal. I didn't mention it to PJ because it was on the inner portion of the rail, so I just primed and painted it. But still, for this much money it should be better. Also, there was a lot of welding slag on the steps that IMO should be sanded off before the powder coating. 6/10
Design - Love the looks, seems sturdy, but the middle holes are too small, and too close to the edge to use the fender washers I needed to add once the holes were reamed out. 9/10
Welds - Great quality. Seems sturdy. 10/10
Installation. Abyssmal. Inadequate. Intricate. Difficult. Astoundingly unclear. It is only with the help of forum members (thanks piginajeep) that I was able to finish. The instructions are wrong more often than they are right. Wasted steps abound, and key steps are missing. One of my nutserts stripped and just started spinning. It is now replaced by a fake dummy bolt head RTVed in place. Seems plenty strong even missing one bolt. 1/10 (or lower)
It remains to be seen if these are as strong as my last rockers, the Shrockrails, but they appear sturdy, and look nice. I could do the install now within just a few hours, but the instructions will not help first-timers. And I am a mechaincal engineer, with moderate mecahnic skills. Good luck to any novice that attempts these.
After this experience, it is unlikely I will EVER purchase another item from PureJeep. I plan to communicate this to the powers that be at PJ in an effort to help them improve their products and their chances with others for repeat business.
Thanks again for all the help

I had this exact problem. In fact I still have one stripped nutsert with a bolt sticking out of it. I guess I should just cut it off and glue a dummy bolt head over it.

Once installed, these rocker guards are VERY nice though! Enjoy!
Whatever! They are a total pain in the ass to install, and don't let anyone including Piginajeep tell you otherwise. Now, having said that, I would totally buy a set again. They are hands down the most solid built rockers on the market and I've yet to see anything that's half the strength or quality.
Don't feel bad Phish - it took me about 3 weeks to install mine..I put a lot of hours into it. I too had a ton of problems and issues to work around but in the end it worked out ok and they are on for good.

Sir, I am sorry if there was a communication break down. We were in a mad rush getting ready for TDS. Please give me a call and I will get you taken care of.
Hey Guys,
I want to let every one know I would rate this a semi difficult install. The JK body is very thin sheet metal , so we have had to take extra care and time in making sure these are installed properly. We sell a lot of these and most customers don't have a problem. I suggest that you be comfortable with drilling into your body, understand how to install a nut zert ( they can be difficult and will strip if they are nut aligned perfectly). Even though this installation is difficult, it leads to having more ground clearance than a frame mounted system and a very sturdy rocker. I am sorry for the difficulties some have had, but many have found that the installation helps create one of the best rockers on the market. I would love to see pics of your rockers in use. Feel free to hit me with any questions.
