If it works and steering wheel has excess play then plan for a new or rebuilt steering box.
I’m thinking that someone who installed this steering box tightened the screw all the way flush with the set nut, I have loosened it 3/4 of a turn and has made a huge difference.

Keep going until steering self centers and at same time check SW play.

I removed my dual steering stabilizer and helped a little, is it safe to run without a stabilizer? And also how do I know if I have unscrews the adjustment screw too much?

Been out of town so have lost track of this thread a bit, but it is totally safe to drive with no SS. If all is good with the jeep you shouldn't notice any difference at all. Many people drive without a SS 100% of the time.

If you back out that sector shaft adjuster too far then the steering wheel will become quite sloppy with a fair amount of play. If you have come back more than 2 threads then you have gone plenty far enough. Normally that adjuster will not go down into the box more than about 1 turn anyways before you start forcing it which is not good.

So when I first started with the adjustment screw it acted like it was threaded all the way in as far as it would go. I tried to screw it down to break it free because it was not moving either way. The top of the adjustment screw was flush with the the top of the lock nut, looks like that’s as far down as it should go. So I have loosened it about 3/4 of a turn and has loosened up my steering a lot but still not returning to center all the way.
