TPMS - new info
Got a tip the other day and we are doing some testing.
STEP #1 Bring the Jeep in the shop with factory wheels and tires at an air pressure that satisfies the system - i.e. no alarm. (factory spec air pressure)
STEP #2 Jack and support Jeep, remove factory wheels and tires and haul them away. Not as in the back of the garage, but away. (we loaded them on the dually and hauled them home - 3 miles)
STEP #3 Install new wheels tires without TPMS sensors - just normal valve stems, remove stands and drive.
FWIW no alarms, bells, chimes or idiot light in the dash to date.

i dont understand. i had my tires installed and brought my stockies home. they are not near the jeep, but i still have the (_!_) (thats not an ass, thats the cluster icon)
so i dont really see whats going on.

Not sure, notice I said testing. We've done it to 2 JK Unlimiteds so far. No alarms or no (_!_)
Can't explain it yet... The first one the customer said he didn't care if he had the alarm or not. He wasn't spending the $$$ to buy sensors for his new Walker Evans Beadlocks and salvaging the stock sensors was not an option as he had already sold and delivered the stock wheels and tires to another guy.
The TPMS system has not gone off to date. So we tried it on our shop rig as we were assembling the new TR beadlocks and Mickey Thompson Baja Claws. It hasn't set an alarm yet either.

From what I've read here in the recent past some guys who don't replace the sensors have no alarm or chime for a while then it magically happens.
This test might take some time. Good luck cuz I'm interested in this. I'll be watching.

is there a way to reset the idiot light? my light has been on since i had the 35s put on. i dont mind it, the dinging is done before i finish writing the mileage in my planner and ive grown kinda fond of the emoticon ass.
if i could get rid of it, cool. if not, no big deal either.

This does work on GM vehicles, but not sure about Chrysler. The shop that installed mine accidentally forgot to re-install them in my new wheels/tires, so they sat in my OEM's for about a week. I never had the icon/chime until the shop called me and said they forgot to do it. They swapped them into my new ones and of course, now I have the ass symbol and chime. Maybe should have left them out? Hmmmmm....
I thought the same about the TPMS. I guessed mine were not hooked up and did not have an alarm or symbol - until about a week later. It came on. The computer must not check all the time or may check over time until it gets "X" amount of low readings. It will show up.
The alarm is a series of 3 dings and the light comes on. Not a big deal.

for trick was oem spare taken away or left on as is? there is a sensor in oem spare and one should have same sized spare as 4 road tires.
