Everyone says if you get 33's you'll wish you had 35's
well i havent made up my mind yet and i would like to hear from some people who were sorry they got the 3's
i have a 4 door 6 speed with 3:73 gears. 2.5 inch teraflex coil lift that i will be installing this weekend and a 1 in body lift. I live in central oklahoma so its a lot of highway to the rocks.

Get 33's, then wheel the chit out of them. Soon, you will be able to pick better lines because of your "handicap" and you will be able to wheel better than the guys with 35's. Then, when your tires where out, get the 35's and start messing with the people running 37's and make them feel silly.
I've been wheeling with guys with 33's and 35's on their rigs and honestly, there is nothing stopping the guys with 33's from doing the same stuff the guys with 35's are doing.
The only reason for this debate is what "looks" better on your rig and for that, only YOU can decide that.

I have to agree here...why can the d30 not stand up to 35's? Has ANYONE here snapped a d30 in a way that it would have been fine if it were 33's
I have 33's on mine........(pre-snorkel pic btw
)

Now I have thought that I might not get the 35's b/c regear costs so much. But, I think that 35's are just fine on a d30. This is a great thread for me, b/c I NEED tires within 3-4 months. My Dick Cepeks are great, and I want the 35's. I almost never drive on the highway, I can just take my girlfriends Audi and give her the JEEP anytime. My daily commute is 7 miles round trip (only way to go.) So who has 35's on 3.21's that just wheels and drives around town??? I feel that the main issue would be power loss, but I can just drive it a little higher in the rpm range. I just can't see how my d30 axle would just snap b/c my rubber is slightly bigger.

1. Vehicle weight: You have a 2door that’s better than the 4 door (you may want to add this into any pool as well). Also any weight you have added.
2. Tire size/ weight: You want the actual size not the stated size (my 35s are more like 33s now).
3. Power: look, DC or FC, in their infinite wisdom, gave us the 3.8 dog so we would not be stranded on the trail after snapping a D30.

Guess I will be running 35's
I have been wheeling the crap out of my 2008X 2 door with the stock tires. I know 35's look better but I really am in no hurry, in my experience most the money you spend is the stuff that has no cosmetic value. Gears, lockers T case upgrades Driveshaft upgrades. I would rather put armor gears and traction upgrades on and enjoy the challenge of the trail. I have been enjoying exploring trails and when the time comes will likely upgrade to 33 or 34 inch skinnier tires. I enjoy the challenge and with trails today overbuilding kinda takes the fun out of it. IF you want to look big just get a Ford Superduty lift it to infinity and run 44's ..get a rope ladder etc/ I enjoy the LCG of the stock JK and will probably run OME with 33's and some Aussie lockers as the next step.
I have the 285/75r16's that are supposed to be a 33, but mine measure out to a 32. Was wanting to go to 35's but just got back from Moab and figure to go to 36s instead now. One of my concerns, only aired down to 22 psi while in Moab, wanted to maintain some clearance and we all know you lose clearance when airing down. Tires did well at that preassure with minimal slippage but did have to get on it a few times gettin up some of the ledges on the top of the world trail. With a taller tire, would have beenable to air down a tad more to make the going a little easier on the Jeep. Did bang things a few times with the limited ground clearance and did crush the exhaust coming down one of the ledges on top of the world.
Some may ask why not just go to 37s. Want to stay with current suspension set up and figure I can get 36s on with fender trimming and 1" bl.

Despite the fact that most people are making a case for 35's i still think i am going with 33's.
It just seems to make more sense for someone living in central oklahoma (with 3:73 gears)miles from any real trail.
I would probably go with the bigger meats (and gears) if i lived somwhere i could hit a trail any time, but thats just not the case. I think i'll just take the extra $300 that i save by getting 3's and get some lights or somthing really usefull.
However, I am still going to see the difference for future ref. I am having one tire of each size mounted on soft 8's. I will put them on and take some pics for the thread as soon as they come in.
thanks guys

I think that the bigger the tires, the more challenging trail you need to have fun...No?
I guess that you can have fun in an easy trail on 33s where the guy on 40s would just find it boring...
I dunno... I use to go off-road a lot, now I don't anymore... I use my Jeep to go to work, to tow my motocross to the track and to defy all the snow we get in the winter... And sure, I'll probably go off road a couple of times per year...
The stock tires look anemic...I definitely want something that "looks" better... I'm not sure I believe you guys when you are saying that 35s run better or just like stock with the added weight, suspension mods, gears, etc...
So far, I'm almost convince I'll get 33x12.50x18s with a 2in BB... I know 35s definitely looks beefier.... But I think 33s will better suit MY needs....

she has a 2 door... 33s (and she has Nitto MGs) her rig is sharp! on a 4 door even 35s look a little small. 33s look tiny on a 4 door.
