If looking for a winch just for recovery most will get the job done, It is not a bad idea to run out some line and spool it back in before a trail run especially if you are caring the only winch. That way you know it didnt die on you.
If you are looking for a winch to use rock crawling and plan on counting on it to to climb obstacles then you have a bit more at stake, line speed and reliability suddely become a major factor and you would be well served to purchase something a bit more expensive.
Whatever you go will it is always best to be prepared by excercising it as often as you get time.

I know everyone has there preference. It seems winches are just like tires when it comes to JKs.
But after reading this test article I am going with Engo.

Edit...I guess it will not let me post the link here, but it was by a national magazine with 4 wheeler in the name. Pretty good read. I learned a lot about winches.

Just got my NGO 10000lb winch with synthetic line installed on my 2011 and love it.... $429.00 delivered to my house.... I got mine through truckaddons.com. They are sponsors on the thred.....
I ran a Warn M8000 on my LJ, it was good.
I ran a Superwinch EPI9.0S on my 2011, it was really nice. I think they're being phased out.
I currently run a Warn Powerplant on my 2012. I decided on the Warn with compressor when my CO2 tank hose blew up in my face and hands. Decided to ditch the CO2 at that point.
I have not had any issues with any. They all performed well.

Thanks for all the input. However, I am still undecided. All those winches seem like they are reasonably priced and, although I may not see the need for an air compressor right now, I might need one in the future. And so, if I go with the Powerplant it is built in, but if I go with a more reasonably priced winch I could always add that on when I do NEED it.
That Engo winch with synthetic line is a hell of a deal at that price. The synth line cuts down the weigh at the front of the vehicle too. If I pick up a winch, I may grab that Engo too.
Has it been around long? Any reports of reliability?
