C.T.L., it looks like you got one from the very first run. Shortly after that, we changed the template, instructions and hardware list. It looks like you got the updated hardware but the obsolete install instructions. Basically what it boils down to is we eliminated the four "long" bolts and included 4 more of the same size as the rest of them. Then we instruct the installer to use a 1" hole saw to cut an access hole through the underside bracing at those four locations, so the shorter bolts will work and the nut will snug up against the underside of the outer sheetmetal. The reason we did this is because we found out that over-tightening on the long bolts could pull the sheetmetal down into the void between the outer skind and the brace, causing some deformation.

Please feel free to download the updated template/instructions from our website for a detailed procedure on this. But you should already have enough of the short bolts to complete the installation following the updated directions. Please accept our apology for sending out a louver with the updated hardware pack but with the obsolete instructions. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to give our sales staff a call at 951-849-5911 and they can answer any questions for you right away.

May sound like a stupid question....does it come with a template or something to make sure the alignment is correct...I'm no mechanic but know some of the basics...how easy is it to install?
And what was used for the cutting?..besides the hole saw...what gives u a better smoother cut?

Yes it comes with a cut template that has install instructions printed on it. If you'd like to check out the template and the instructions, you can download it from our website (just go to the product page for the JK Hood Louver, and you'll see the little Download PDF Instructions icon). Also feel free to read through the 14 pages of this thread, there are a few testimonials from those who have already installed it. It sounds like they are having a pretty easy time of it. For making the long cuts we recommend an electric or pneumatic cut-off wheel. That's the easiest tool to use while controlling your depth of cut, as you will only be cutting through the top layer of sheetmetal, not the bracing under the hood.

No worries on the questions. Yeah sometimes I feel like a broken record answering the same ones over and over, but that's cool, it bumps my thread back to the top, so

On the water and shorting anything out question, I'll paste in our answer to that very question from the FAQ section on our website:
Q: Does the Hood Louver allow water to get into my engine compartment?

A: This is a very common question that we get asked all the time. The simple answer is yes, some water can trickle down through the louvers during wet weather, but this hasn't caused any significant problems for the hundreds of people who have installed our Hood Louvers. It is important to remember that the engine bay is not a sealed compartment—it is common and expected that water can splash up into there even with a stock, uncut hood. That's why all of the engine components and electrical connections under the hood are weatherproofed from the factory. Many Jeep owners routinely pop the hood and hose down the engine compartment anyhow, to clean off dust and mud after wheeling trips, with no ill effects. Even if you live in an area with wet weather, you can install the Poison Spyder Hood Louver with confidence.
Hope that answers your concerns.

You still cut out about the same amount of material with the current template as he did with the early one. But we made the cut pattern a lot simpler on the current one so its a bit easier and quicker to do.
