disgusted?
I agree many people aren't aware of the wave but I think we have a bit of culture clashing with the wave as well. We are in CA where people don't even know their neighbors. Now they are supposed to wave at a complete stranger? Plus there's a lot happening on our streets. I know I’ve missed a waver when I was busy trying to figure out what that jack hole to my right was about to do.
I just keep waving; maybe i get a smile or a wave, maybe not. I still can't get my wife to wave (culture vs jeep culture).

There are a few around here that wave every time I see them. I got so used to waving in our YJ that when we first got our JK I waved at every Jeep I saw. I got so many weird looks back that sadly I wait to see if I get a wave first before I wave. Worst of all, if it's a stock Sahara I don't even bother waving. I have found that around here, those are the ones who buy it because it looks "cool" and it will never see dirt. I've gotten weirded out by a lady hopping out of her red convertible Bug and telling me that she wanted to buy one just like mine....only black...not "so high"...with a "hard part in the back"...and "shiny parts over the wheels"
As many times as you get "caught" Toad, I am begining to think you do it on purpose. You can barely use the words "long" or "hard" around here and you certainly can't use them in the same sentence.
Back on topic: I usually wave, but I find very few to wave back - maybe 1 in 10. Sometimes I wave for a long time. Sometimes it's just a hard, quick wave. Every once in a while, it's a long hard one. Depending on how fast I'm driving it may be a fast one or a slow one. Usually I wave either a long slow one or a fast hard one. I don't usually do it long and fast or slow and hard, but I've been known to make exceptions. Then, of course, there is the rare slow long fast hard one when I thought it was going one way but turns out it goes the other way.
