The part that the weld is breaking on mine is where the screw handles are.
Oooooooh~. I am an idiot.

Somehow I was thinking about the tabs for the lights

I had the same problem. The earlier racks (mine included) have only 1-2 few spot welds around the nut, and mine popped out on a Rubicon trip where there was fairly extreme side-to-side force with a load on the roof.

Gobi more than made good on it though -- they sent me a replacement rear bar which fully addresses the problem. The nuts are very securely welded all the way around. I'm assuming this is they way they're making all of them now. I don't have a pic of the replacement, but I'll snap one when I'm back in town after the new year.

My rack has two tabs on the inboard side of each rail. They are kind of recessed, and there's no obvious way to attach a light directly to them. I'm actually kind of wondering what they're for. I don't have a great pic, but there are barely visible here:

Yeah, the welds broke first, then the motion of the rack (or possibly the "gentle suggestion" from big sluice) was what actually bent the threaded rod which was loose in the hole.

I need a wind fairing in the worst way. My CA to IL trip actually gave me hearing damage.... Dave you know the status of them? Crap is killing me to the point that I'm considering removal.

That is exactly what is happening to mine, it only had two small welds on it. I've been in contact with GOBI in reference to it and they were suppose to send me a replacement part, but this was almost 3 months ago. Amazing product and great customer service. I guess the issue might be that I'm in Italy.

I'm interested as well. Let us know if there might be a pre-order
