Here are a couple shots that show the deflectors in their "natural" environment (i.e. after 3000 miles of on- and off-road driving):

Sweet!! But, how well does it actually work?? I have a hard top, so until I get my Trektop, I'd be more concerned about gas mileage, if that makes an impact. But, definitely, the wind noise, too. I had a friend who had a Ford Explorer and got a Thule rack and it didn't last a month because his gas mileage went down to "PFP" and the noise was atrocious. Actually, I think he got it as much for "the look" as anything else. So, while the GOBI looks great, I may opt for something that you can remove (at least the basket) when not in use. So, I'm wondering how this does, say compared to the CONGO CAGE?

Gas mileage will definitely decrease due to increase wind drag. But the wind deflector will actually bring some mpg back. Just like most racks, and etc.

The basket can be removed with at least 2 people when no in use.

I do not have experience with Congo racks. And their data shows 500lb capacity. However, I couldn't find any detailed data for the Congo, Since it doesn't tell you if its 500lb stationary weight or moving weights. For example. Gobi rack has 300 lbs moving and 600 lbs moving. The truth is any time you have about 300 lbs on top your vehicle the driving style of your vehicle changes due to the switch of the center gravity. And at 300lbs load there are lots of side to side sway motion of the rack and did not seem to me there is any sort of side to side stabilizing arms to decrease the motion.

There are many racks out there for the JK, And Gobi rack is what I personally decided to use do to its looks, functionality, and reliability for on and off road.

Here is a earlier write up we did for the Gobi Rack. Before the wind deflector was released.

And here are some pics of the rack removed with only front light bar in place during the EJS 2010

With rack back on with Roof Top tent 150 lbs, 4 full Jerry cans aprox 160lbs, Awning, Shovel, Roof insert. 300 lbs max for my recommendation due to the change of driving style. on and off road.

There is no back order issue since all made to order. Really just depend on how you look at it.

But for seriousness, all racks have aprox 4 weeks plus minus lead time. And it has always been since I start selling them. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

So softtop guys.. Can someone post a picture of their soft top folded just halfway back?

I saw a couple posts noting that the top could flap up and hit the bottom of the rack when it was fully latched, so it seems like trying to drive with the soft top only half back would have a lot of rubbing issues.

MOST, MOST MOST IMPRESSIVE!! I did not know the Gobi could do that. Very much appreciate the pics. I detest that I have such expensive taste, but if you're going to do it, might as well do it right.

thank you!!

Can anyone tell me what is a good set of lights to mount on the stealth version of this rack?

I do not want to buy lights not knowing if they will fit or not. :/

The PIAA 1500xt's listed on the Gobi site are said to be discontinued by PIAA. Anyone know of any good alternatives?

Thanks.

This is the only pic I have of it in sunrider...I didn't have any issues flipping it back and securing the rack.
