Default One rack for his & hers wranglers?

My husband has a 2010 Sahara unlimited and I have a 2012 Sahara Unlimited. We are wondering if the same rack can be used on either jeep. What are the benefits of the quick release mounts...do they allow for easier removal of the entire rack assembly or do they just make soft top easier to put up and down, or all of the above? Also, would the rack accommodate our Thule box? Thanks!

What is going on around there?

I can answer parts of your question. I am pretty sure the rack will work on either jeep. I have the quick release mounts and they are made to make the soft top easier to put on or take off. It wont make the full rack removal any easier.

Thanks, Raisinhead. That is really my main concern about the Gobi....whether we will need to designate one of the jeeps for the rack. Started out by looking for a simple hitch-mount cargo carrier. only to find that I've been lured into a full-on Stealth roof rack. Oh, where will it end?

Keep in mind that the rear window got wider in 2011, so the ladder on the rack was changed to compensate.

I don't know if everything else is the same, but I'm pretty sure that you'll want the 2011+ rack or else you'll run the risk of the ladder interfering with the window.

Still no word on my rack yet...hoping it'll be ready for pick up by the weekend.

It doesn't end!

I would suspect that if you want to switch racks between two Jeeps, the way to make it the most convenient would be to double up on the light bar part and double up on the rear part that attaches to the frame (not sure if that part is sold separately). If you can do that then switching should be easy.

Disclaimer: I don't own one but have been studying them for a while.

They did change the latter, but it worked out okay for me. I have an 11 and bought from an 08, and I'm okay. But i have a soft top, so it doesn't make a difference on mine.

Does anyone know if the highrock or rugged ridge bumpers with tire carriers will work on my 2009 4dr with the Gobi Stealth Rack.
Thanks!

Thanks ZMagic97, I saw that and should have mentioned it, hoping someone might have more info - they haven't updated the FAQ in a while.
