Poison Spyder Hood Louvers--Now for JK!

Yeh i understand what your point is .
Not trying to be funny, but what did you think was gonna happen? These louvers have been around for years and haven't changed. You have a '12 with the 3.6L.....is the water not just hitting the plastic cover and dispersing to the side? Everything thing in there is pretty waterproof. Consider the people that throw a snorkel on and forge deep water crossings.....they're dealing with a good bit of water up in that bay 
If i was i could consider then to expect a wet motor.
Im sure water is hitting the cover and

Im not here to bash the louver , i actually love the look it added and hope heat disapation as well
just to let others know what to expect , seeing no one has made any mention to it.
im sure others could care less about water in the motor bay .
but i care, when i saw that amount . Lets just say as i did . Ill need to address the issue with some sort of cover .
However you cant put a cover on when you park it some where and it pours unexpectedly .
Im sure i can find a solution with maybe a canvas and some velcro or something.
if i think it through with out it looking foolish

Ok ive had the hood louver on for a few days now maybe a week , last night we got a heavy rain , this morning i lifted the hood .
lots of water , i mean lots. and as i lifted the un wiped hood of the vehicle , all the water that was either built up in x bracing from rain , holding it like a tray and surface rain on the hood that water started to flow in from upper vent louvers near windshield was very alarming . I started to try and wipe it all , but was then just 
The only good side to this post is that i do have a car port i can park under for most of the year when im not using it . Im going to need to address this problem with some type of cover now when its not under a roof during heavy rain . Im very surprised no one mentioned this in the thread of near 40 pages from 2012 up to date . Granted it was indeed a heavy rain but its alarming how much water was allowed into the engine bay .. When hood was being lifted alone it was like pouring a soda bottles worth
looks Awesome , but im definitely un- satisfied with the water everywhere under there !! And not sure how im going to prevent more of this ridiculous water flow , ( its still raining) so i got it under the carport . In all seriousness, I've never seen the water as a real issue, however, I can see how that can be a bit unexpecting. I wash my whole engine bay down with a hose quite frequently (I cover my CAI with a plastic bag) and it's never been a problem.
I'm also curious to see what you come up with in terms of some sort of cover. If it's simple and effective enough, I may do it just for a bit more peace of mind. Maybe even some additional holes drilled in certain spots will aid in draining as well?
I think my biggest concern with the water in this situation would be if it got stuck in the hood/louver/hood brace some how and just sits waiting to rust. For anyone who is getting ready install this, I would make sure you paint the spots where you cut/drilled. All of the angles and crevasses under the louver seem like prime spots for water to hangout for a bit after a wash or heavy rain. It could turn into an issue over time if left bare/exposed.

to scribe out a vinyl or canvas cover in this shape . Unfortunately I tossed mine away .
I know within the next few weeks ill try cutting something to cover it . Not exactly sure what it will be . But in early spring I cant keep my jeep under the car port and due to NH mud season and the carport location , The jeep is kept up on driveway and subjected to snow, winds and heavy rains this time of year . I'm not concerned of once or twice having water get in but February , march ,April and beginning of May can be quite a wet season with ice as well

And I cant have allow it to just drain in on a regular basis .
And if anyone has a creative solution . Id be certainly open to the concepts.
right now I'm leaning toward a piece of black vinyl with some type of quick release ties that can be easily hooked to some stick on fasteners, like the kind that you use for tie wraps or something mounted up by the cowl as for lower side I'm not sure don't want fugly fasteners visible ( The constant quest of materials that modifications bring)

This whole discussion makes me happy to live in SoCal.
I'm curious as to what solutions come out of all of this though.

its not a 3 hour job like some say, unless you have done it before but even then questionable . Congrats on the purchase . your going to be happy with its look and prob function . Water prob wont effect you unless you guys get heavy rains . Texas seems to be dry ?
Look forward to seeing your over all opinion of how install was and what not.
I like the looks better than the vented hoods out there i think . Its subtle yet very noticeable in its appearance
What color powder coat? I bought mine already powder coated .

, I live in southern California where it doesn't rain much so I'm not highly concerned about water getting in. I can't wait. I'd like to see how big of a difference my temps will be.-R
