Make sure you keep very good records and look into Lemon Laws for your state..play your cards right and you may be in for a brand new jeep

I have been talking with the sales manager and my salesman about getting a different jeep. Havent heard back on what they are willing to do for me. I let them know that unless they are going to give me what I paid for the vehicle it was not going to work for me and I would continue on with the problems and see where that leads and if need be go the lemon law route if the problems continue. I told them I wasn't willing to pay more money to get a vehicle that didn't have problems as I should have got that the first time around. I would like to be able to resolve the issue before it gets the the lemon law route and would like to go ahead and get a different vehicle. I am trying to be patient and understanding of their side of things ( i know they dont want to loose money) as well as look out for myself. Like I have stated before so far the dealership as a whole (sales and service) have been pretty good to me and would like to continue a relatioship with them I just would like a vehicle that doenst need repairs 1 a month. Waiting to hear back from them and see what the salesman says and also waiting back to hear back from service to find out the status of the tick, last I heard was yesterday afternoon that they were waiting to hear back from STAR to see what they want them to do.

At the end of the day, the dealer will lose money if they buy your JK for what they sold it to you for and trade you into a new unit. While I am sure they will work with you as best they can, your best course of action from a monetary perspective may be to allow the lemon law to come into play. At that point the manufacturer will handle the issue so it would come out of their pocket.

Talked with service manager, he said they are currently tearing down my engine right now per STAR to see if they can find out what is causing the tick. He seemed pretty helpful and said he will do all he can to make sure I don't get it back with any further problems. He even mentioned seeing if he could get them to allow him to replace the enigine. I did ask how long my jeep would be in the shop he was unsure at the moment and promised to call me back by the end of the day with a update on whats going on. I spoke with him about buyback since I am concerned with the reliability of my jeep since I have had a few problems and its the second time they have dug into my engine (first time replaced lifters and phaser) he said he was going to try to repair the issue first and if it came down to it he will do what he can to make me happy and says he has a good relationship with chrysler so he could possibly go that route if they cant fix it this time. I am still trying to be patient and and not be a jerk but at the same time I am trying to look out for myself and not get screwed its a hard line to walk sometimes hahah. Thanks everyone for all the advice and I will keep you updated on what they say about my jeep

Heard back from the service manager, he says they cleaned the phasers and ran engine everything seemed ok. He said they pulled vehicle next to another 2012 on the lot and said they sound the same. He says he finds no problems and that it should be ok to drive and if something happens I have a warranty. I let him know that even though I have a warranty that doesnt mean I want to deal with more problems, I want a vehicle that I can trust and that I dont have to bring in to get worked on and if it does have problems again I am going to want to get put in a new vehicle. I told him about some information I found on the forums about multiple people having heads replaced and that there are many videos of wranglers without the tick and the tick is not normal. He said he will call his field service engineer and talk with him first and see what he says and call me back.

I purchased and had the same build date as well. They just replaced my Driver's side head last week. My jeep was in the shop for 5 weeks total waiting on a head that was on national back order. Star wanted to just replace the lifters in mine until the tech said he had already replaced a few heads on OTHER vehicles with the same problem. He advised them that replacing the lifters did nothing for the tick on the previous vehicles so Star said to take some measurements of the lifter bores on mine and immediately they said to REPLACE the head.

Since the replacement, I have no tick. I can now say the passenger side is noiser than the drivers side! LOL Still no tick though.

OHHHHH, tell the techs to read these forums and posts. The tech at my dealership said he reads these often enough to help him out at times. There are issues that these techs HAVE NOT experienced yet. My Jeep is the first one at this dealership to have a head replaced although they have replaced sseveral heads in other vehicles for the same problem.

Hang in there and DO NOT take "This is normal or NO" for an answer. I didn't!!
