Discussed with Lab about their testing, and the Lead Lab Tech stated that generally the ATF will turn dark in color if there is an issue with the torque converter... Interesting, eh! I'll get more explanation on this after I drop off the fluid or pick up the test results.

Problem is the lab needs 4 ounces of fluid to test and takes 48 hours for the test (only $26 as well). So another trip to get more fluid...

Lord knows that TCs are a problem with this vehicle. If you need any more ammunition check the forums for Chrysler 300s and other vehicles that use this tranny. I've been to most of them and the complaints are very similar to what you see here. (shudder, shift points, failure of the TC to unlock, early transmission failure, etc,). Good luck.

I dont understand why a dealership would rather do this than just change it under warranty.

they should know that if they arent covering it then they arent doing the work. the Jeep is new, cover it, everyones happy and youll be back for more work.

The dealer won't "just do it" because Chrysler may or may not reimburse the dealer. And given Chrysler's current financial position, they are taking the short sighted route and denying warranty claims wherever and whenever they can. It's creating a huge problem for reputable (and honest) dealers.

Thats not a bad price for the testing. Sucks you have to deal with it though.

Exactly what my dealer stated... but I will say that the dealer I'm dealing with (no pun intended) specifically denied my claim before even involving Chrysler, and only based on the color & smell. Chrysler <clear> may explain it, but this darn dealer is definitely not reputable/honest IMO.

BTW... when I went to pick up the 4 ounces of fluid I needed, ALL the mechanics stopped working and watched/gathered around as the service manager and another mechanic pumped out the oil from the dipstick. I submitted an official BBB complaint last night, but I don't think they would have received it that soon -- but who knows.

Looks like I'll be getting the test results tomorrow -- <clear> .

Good luck with the test results. Can't wait to hear the results. I currently do not own a Jeep, but when the time comes, will be looking at a JK with the auto tranny so my wife can drive it also. Any chance a "new and improved" auto tranny will be going into the JKs any time soon??

No, not yet... I can't get any work done either -- too anxious! She said today, so hopefully I'll hear real soon. I'll post the results once I get them.
