Automatic JK Transmission Problems POLL
I contacted Chrysler and got nowhere regarding a trans cooler. They said I must go to the local dealer I use for service for answers on warranty.
I contacted Faricy Jeep, the closest dealer to me and likely the one I will be using. I talked to a couple people in service and was told not only will it NOT harm the warranty, they STRONGLY encourage a transmission cooler in the JK. They stated at their dealership, a transmission cooler is something all auto's should have. They said currently there is no MOPAR part specifically for the Wrangler and ANY aftermarker trans cooler would do. They offered to install it for me for 2 hours labor, or about $200.
I was also told that it would not void my warranty if I did it myself, or I had a trans shop do it for me, assuming they do it correctly (there is the catch).
That's the info I have so far. Who knows if they really will stand behind it, but it sounded really good. Each dealer is different. I was expecting them to say no, instead they said it was a really good idea.
Without saying it in words, I got the impression they are aware these transmissions run way too hot.
My suggestion is this. You have your own service advisor at your dealership, each of us are assigned one. Talk to your service advisor AND your service manager FIRST...then move forward with a friendly dealer.

You have to realize that most of the people on this forum are here because they have a problem. So any results here will more than likely be skewed toward the "problem" side.
The second thing you need to realize I bet there are quit a few on here that have more than one screen name. I can't count the number of times you have multiple posts of the exact same problem in one day by "different" people.
There is a third problem with these number also, some of the responses are more than likely due to someone not liking how the tranny shifts saying something is "wrong" with it. Mine shifts "Odd" but I know its the way its programed to shift. There is nothing wrong with it.
If you factor these three things in I am actually surprised it is as much of a landslide for no problems as it is.
I initially voted that I was not having any issues. But now not so sure....
Can anyone help with this?
Whenever I shift from (P, R, D) to (P, R, D), I hear a very brief noise that sounds like clicking. At least "clicking" is the closest way I can describe it.
There's no clunk or jerking of the Jeep. In fact, WHILE it's making this clicking noise, the tranny GETS in gear, because I can feel it move forward or backwards (depending on which gear I'm shifting into).
To make it simple, here's the way it happens:
1. Apply brake pedal
2. Shift lever to (P, R, or D)
3. ** Clicking ** starts
4. Tranny engages into desired gear
5. ** Clicking ** stops
Other than all of that, it drives real well. No dings while off-roading or at any other time. No diagnostic codes that need to be taken care of. I AM in stop-and-go traffic, but it's always in D.
Any thoughts before I call my service tech??? I've 11,000 miles on it and have not had to call him yet.
Thanks for any help!!!

Thank you Sir for your response
I will take your advice and talk to my service advisor, I'm also looking into mounting a frame rail heat exchanger or a Plate trans cooler, what I want to do is stay away from the AC condenser if at all possible, maybe mounting plate cooler behind the radiator.
Thanks again for your input !
