F in windshield
There is no "luck" to the no deductible. Just ask your agent. I have a deductible for collision, but NO deductible for comprehensive, just for windshields! It costs about $12 more per month than a $500 deductible would have been. This is with State Farm. Also, some states have an automatic zero deductible for glass.
I thought I was the only one.... just turned 3000K was on the highway and "tick" I watched where I though it hit and nothing so I figured I made it through... It was to dark to check when I got home... Next morning there was a crack going right up my window next to the inspection sticker... the rock hit at the bottom of the window in the black strip. today the crack took a left and is heading toward me ahhhh
I wouldn't replace it until it needs it. About a month after I bought my TJ (Oct 01) I had an 18-wheeler through up a bolt from the road. (I saw it coming straight at me, not a fun time) It left a spot about the size of a quarter in the lower half of the windshield. It was to big to have patched, but it wasn't in my line of sight and didn't bother me driving.
When I traded it in last Oct, they took 200 of the value becuase it still had the same spot.

unless something malfunctions or the driver is negligent in load/transporting (ie: overloading or failure to secure load) he/she will NOT be responsible for anything that is kicked up or otherwise dispatched from their truck. Hince why they have those big yellow stickers that say "STAY BACK, 100 FEET" and "NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR OBJECTS THROWN FROM VEHICLE"
I wonder, if i get one of those stickers ("ATTN: Tailgaters: Driver not responsible for object THROWN from vehicle") .. could i toss a brick out the top of my jeep into their windshield?? technically, i think i could... as long as proper notice was provided... maybe not... nice thought though. guess i will just stick with cigarettes into open windows or sunroofs.
but back on subject, if a rock did it, replace it... if the body did it, use the warranty
good luck!
My wife was driving her 3day old Civic a few years back and a dumptruck with an uncovered load of rocks hit a bump > a stone about the size of a baseball hit the hood AND the windshield. She got the tag number and the trucking companies info along with another driver as witness but it all ended up on our insurance. Supposedly (witnessed ot not) if an officer didn't witness the 'illegal load', he wasn't going to fine the driver and without the driver being charged in wrongdoing, the company wasn't going to pay. I had a VERY heated discussion with the trucking company (after a very mellow conversation that lead nowhere) and sought out legal advise. That lead to me biting the bullet and having it out on my own damn insurance. What a PITA.
Anybody that replaces their windshield because of a "star" or two is throwing there $ down the toilet. Have it drilled and filled. My TJ has been repaired 3 times I think. Even if the star is in the middle of the glass, once fixed, it's practically invisible.
The guy will tell you if it's too big to fix, and thru AAA, the repair jobs are free I think (once per year).IIRC. YMMV

I was told any thing bigger than a dollar is a replace. Same boat here though 900 miles and new windshield needed. the rock hit soo hard that it powdered glass inside on the dash. and was immediate star and bigger than a dollar then a crack formed from the other side of the wind shield they both passed each other around the middle of the window.
On a side note has anyone had any luck with a deflector on the front of the hood? I think they are ugly as sin and will really have to suck it up to install one but if they do more than just making the rocks hit the windshield higher it may be worth it in the long run

Deflectors are not intended to deflect rocks. They can't move enough wind to deflect something that dense in the course of 4 feet or so. Try this experiment. Hold a leaf blower at arms length, pointing straight up. Even electric blowers have amazing nozzle velocity at the tip. Now hav a freind throw a rock through the airstream at your face. If you get hit in the face, well you just saved a whole lot of money on a worthless deflector.
If it flies over your head, then give the deflector a go.
Archer, now I know you're lying, there's no rocks in Wyoming.:toung: Sorry about your glass, that sucks. Wish I could move to Wyoming:sad: I'd risk the rock damage for the hunting/fishing and lack of asphalt.
