F in windshield
after 2 months or so after getting my JK a rock from a truck hit my windshield too... wasn't bad except the cold weather/heat inside my jeep caused that split to go right up and around!
i think the damage was about $200 or so.

I’ve got you all beat... 90 miles after buying it... nice good chip on the drivers side which then migrated to a 15" long crack over night (it was march, it gets cold at night and the window was nice and warm from the heater). If I hadn't stepped in and tried to fix it, it would've kept going to the other side. My patch job didn’t fix it or hide it; it just stopped it from spreading.
The worst part is, I went off roading all day as a way to celebrate getting it, and on the way home this happened due to a truck slinging a rock at me... ugh.
I'll admit that a bug deflector will not make a rock change course enough to not hit the window, but it'll help a little. I got one for my blazer and as soon as i can, i'm getting one for the jeep. mostly for the god damn bugs. It won't stop all the rocks from hitting the window, but maybe it'll change the rotation speed, angle of travel, angle of impact, etc. just enough as to not leave a chip. my blazer only has one small nick in it in the 150,000 miles of usage...
not to mention... with a good bug deflector... do 70+ in the snow, and you won't need your wippers...
I still think that having the window almost completely vertical was not the brightest thing done by Jeep. It’s just beckoning for stuff to hit it...

As much as I hate "cell phone enforcement" in my state if you want to pin a trucking company on a object impact you need to call 911 on your cell phone. The police do not need to see the physical act of the rock flying, but they do need to pull over the driver in the act of operating the truck with unsafe equipment.
Before everyone starts calling 911, in my state trucks are not responsible for debris thrown from the roadway. So unless there is an obvious violation, like a unlatched dump gate, you are not going to get anywhere.
My insurance has three options. One is full glass coverage with no deductible. The second is glass covered by collision only, subject to the usual rules of the deductible. The third is no windshield glass coverage at all, unless the glass is broken during a claimable accident, still subject to deductible rules.
I have the third option because it saves me over a hundred a year. If I had saved the money (I didn't) I would have $1000 saved now for windshields. My JK needs one now, so I guess my savings will be a few hundred less shortly.

Yeah this was one of those damit chips. i heard the rock hit it but didn't see the crack from inside the window so i thought ok i am good. it took me cleaning my windshield to notice it on the lower driverside in the black part of the window. just set the appointment 215 total with tax. not too bad but after talking to a few tj guys i should have just left it alone until it became a real problem. seems to happen allot to jeepers. oh well i am going to have to just put on a larger lift to put me higher in the air and the stones will go under the jeep.

Luckily, I think my windshields are free here in Mass. Glad to know my $2,000 insurance coverage covers something.... (No accidents at fault, and No speeding tickets.....)
I think in all states, it's illegal for trucks to not have mudflaps.... So if they toss a rock at you, and they have no mudflaps or chewed up mudflaps, I'd be on the phone with the police....

As a veteren of 6 previous CJs and Wranglers, I can tell you that Jeep windshields are close to being diposable...if you do the Interstate commute, they last much shorter...other Jeep veterens can tell you that prior to the JK, windshields were completely, absolutely flat, and not only took stones and bugs directly, but even took tiny stuff like sand and ended up almost looking like they had been dusted by a shotgun...the higher speed driving really does it, not the off road driving...my experience with the JK (8,000 mi) shows that the slightly curved windshield on the JK doesn't collect debris as fast as the previous windshields...
