factory remote start
I saw on ebay an original mopar remote start for about 200 with shipping.

The part number of the kit on ebay indicates its and older remote start kit. The kit I got directly from the dealer was p/n 82209982AG, so two part levels further in time. I don't know what the change history is though between -AE and -AG. Key FOB looks the same.
I did the installation on my JK this weekend. I would say I am very comfortable soldering and working on electrical type stuff but this project took me nearly 6 hours to complete! I know it was done right though... all connections for the splices were soldered and wrapped well. I also looked for sharp metal edges around the wiring and made sure I would not have any future issues (use lots of tape and the plastic wraps when you can).
Doing the installation yourself is not for the faint of heart in my opinion. There are some "fun" splices you have to make under the dash for the brake wire, a reach into the engine for the tach wire, and a really fun tap under the TIPM. It's all very doable, just takes time. For me it was worth it, I saved $225 on installation and got to learn a little more about my JK.
Here are the answers to my own previous questions:
1. The RTV sealant is for patching up the hole you make through the RTV-style gasget when you run the wires under the dash through the firewall. It's very easy to punch through the OEM gasget with a screwdriver and feed the wires. Then take a small tube of RTV and goop it all around those wires when you're done to seal up that hole.
2. I didn't see a really good mount location for the remote start box so I did follow the directions and zip tie it to other harnesses in the area. It will be a real pain in the a$$ getting to it if the fuses in there ever blow. But that's about all you can do.

Has any one put a factory remote starter in there JK. its cold up here and i need one, but dealer wants $600 to put one in, and i went to mopar web site and it only costs $300. If these things just plug in to exsisting wiring dont see why i cant do it my self. so if any one knows for sure let me know. I hate dealers or id ask them.
it is a plug and play with some wiring and a sentry key host for the ing. switch.
very simple and then programming the unit to work is some what of a task but not brain since.
jeeps instructions are more pic. than actual wording. but no bat at all and i have put in roughly 100 units.
[QUOTE=hurstrescue;250880]Does anyone know if you can upgrade the key to the factory key w/ remote start instead of using the key fob that comes with the mopar kit?[/QUOTE
This is cool new news if you have an 08'. If you get the NEW 08 ONLY Mopar remote start kit part # 82211437AC it is an all in one kit that includes 2 new keys instead of the seperate remote fobs that have the remote start button on them (and lock/unlock buttons) just like if it were to be installed from the factory!! I assume the keys need to be cut and programed but its a great option. I have one ordered and FYI its for 08' Wranglers ONLY. My parts guy said this a dozen times and so does everything I read about the new remote start kit online.
