Seems that Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer helps reduce oil consumption, dry starts, prolongs oil life, and increases viscosity. I substitute 1quart of oil for 1 quart of the Lucas. I figure it may help but at least not hurt.

Chrysler never had a 3.8 liter made or assembled in Mexico that is a urban legend.

This thread is just plan scary. I have a 96 XJ currently and it has ~200k on it and burns zero oil. I have been thinking about upgrading to a JKU but this thread has made me completely rethink that idea. I love the JKUs, but burning that much oil seems outrageous. Then it looks like some guys are getting hit at the dealer and having to replace the motor out of pocket.

Do these lifetime warranties transfer to second owners? I was looking at JKUs ~$20k, but that means they all would have the 3.8L motor and be in the prime mileage range for this issue.

Dude, don't be scared of the 3.8. There are in excess of 800,000 JKs produced with that motor and countless thousands in other vehicles and yes there are bound to be some with issues. At this point you should be more watchfull of the 3.6.
It truly sucks if you end up with an oil burner from any manufacturer but unfortunately it happens.

I don't believe that at all. Every 3.8 I've encountered uses oil. Every one.

I love my 3.8, but it eats the dino.

Almost 9,000 miles so far, haven't changed the oil, haven't added oil, and it's still at the full mark.

My 2010 unlimited has started using oil and it has a spark knock . So far I have changed the pcv spark plugs wires and ignition box and Have a voliant cold air intake . also running mid grade gas . And it still has a spark knock . Thinking about a trade in . Because the 3.8 wasn,t in use but a few short years before the scraped it . Oh and it,s weak going uphill on the highway . always jumping out of over drive
