10w30 and it barely consumes oil now

As long as it's less than 1 qt every 3 k, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Did anyone ever try this earlier suggestion?

I've been using BG109 before each oil change. My Jeep only has 24k on it and burns no oil, but what the heck, it's cheap insurance.

Very good suggestion. I use the Mopar combustion chamber cleaner, and it works great.

The Mopar CCC is good, I used it for the first time at 84k with barely any smoke pouring out but I intend to make it a part of regular maintenance since it's only $7-8 a can, simple to use, and 'should' (hypothetically) clean more than the Seafoam since it goes right into the TB.

It is definitely a more potent product than what Seafoam offers, and does a better job.

It would be nice to hear about an oil burner fixed with this method. I doubt it matters terribly what is used to de-varnish the top rings (Seafoam, CCC, etc). Similar goes for the flush product to de-varnish and de-gunk the oil control rings (Amsoil engine flush, BG109, etc.). Use whatever one thinks is best.

The trick that has worked for me over the years has been to do both (oil detergent flush and some type of penetrating solvent via the top-end) so it cleans the carbon/varnish from both ends of the pistons.

There's likely a vicious cycle once piston rings start sticking in the ring lands -- Increased oil consumption and blow-by tends to cause more varnish and carbon build-up that in turn makes oil consumption worse. And using 5w30 or 5w40 after the rings are free is going to make it less likely to start the vicious cycle.

My 3.8 was replaced by dealer at 58000 for oil consumption. They pulled apart the motor and found 2 cylinders that were out of tolerance. My new 3.8 oil cap says 10w-30... the dealer said 10w-30 is what the motor was designed to use. It hasn't used a drop of oil since.

This is true. The 3.8 was originally designed to run 10W30, but was changed in later years in hopes of improving fuel economy.

I was burning a qt every 2500 miles until around 50k miles. 3 oil changes ago I started using Lucas Oil additive and after 2 oil changes (every 5k miles) it is not burning oil now. How the heck? Anyways that worked for me.
