Default Original skid vs "improved" recall skid

Both of these skids are factory so I saw this place fitting to post.

Here's the original 2010 skid (the fat one) vs the "improved" (read puny) skid that is now stock on all new jeeps.

I know it doesn't beat aftermarket skids but c'mon man!!! That little bar offers no protection. I just sanded and reprinted my old skid, it got a lot of use, now I have scuffs on my tranny, thanks Chrysler.

The old one is going back on, I know how to keep my undercarriage clean.

Thanks for showing the difference. I had heard of the issue, but had not seen the new piece.

What the heck?! Is that to make room for the drive train on the newer jeeps? Or does it save .0004 MPG? What is the reason for this crime against nature?

That truly is pathetic. That's beyond cutting corners, I honestly didn't know they had changed them.

Don't know for sure, but I believe Chrysler changed it because people were not keeping the skid clean of grass and other materials that could catch on fire.

That was their official excuse.

I have the new one on my 12 and the end where it bolts to the frame got smashed the first time I took it out. Now I don't even know if I can get a socket through the hole if I decide to change the bar....oh I mean skid.

Yeah, mines the same way. That was a poor design.

I think the original design was way better. If stuff was getting trapped under the wider part of the skid, why not just cut that part off an leave the fatter bar?

If anybody had the fat skid plate and you take you jeep to the stealership to get it replaced, demand to keep the original. You have to argue to keep it. Just say "that skid was on my jeep when I purchased the vehicle, therefore it is my property. The recall requires you to remove it and replace it with a smaller bar, I would like to keep the products I originally purchased when I bought my jeep, please out the old skid plate in the back."
