pentastar head problems?
The change oil light has little to do with the condition of the oil. It is more driven by mileage since the last time the light was reset. So lets say the oil light was going to come on at 7,000 miles. If you change your oil at 6000 miles, the warning will still come on only 1000 miles after it was changed because it hit the 7000 mile mark. There are some other factors considered but mileage is the key. There is no magic sensor that tests the quality of the oil when you are driving. Good luck with your potential head problem.
customer care called today to get my story, then called the dealer and called me back. the dealer said they'd been over this with me and there's nothing wrong with the engine and they shouldn't be persuing this. customer care was responsive but asked me about oil changes and that it might be lifters - never acknowledged the bad cylinder head problem. customer care asked me to take it to another dealer and see what they said.
did you find any in OC that would acknowledge the tick problem? i was wondering about don-a-vee?

I've had the same luck as you up in the Seattle area. Nobody will acknowledge the issue and they are perfectly fine to make up and excuse for the problem. My fuel economy is now down to 13-14 MPG and is really starting to cause an issue with my wallet. If anybody knows of some secret phrase or pass-code that can get these dealers to do what they need to do to fix the issue I would be forever in your debt.
TC Irvine fixed my driver side head in November, but as you're finding out, wouldn't touch it without a CEL and code showing. Once the CEL illuminated, they acknowledged the problem and replaced the head.
At least from my experience, as well as from talking to others, it's highly unlikely that you're going to get the head replaced until you throw a code.

So if you have a 12 with a early build date is this a guarantee that your going to have this head problem. I bought a used 12 with 8500 miles on it and now have 10,000 and no engine light yet. It seem to run fine!
I did just as you, mine had 8500 miles and a build date of 8/11 . Now has 14000+ trouble free miles. I'm sure the problem is certainly in a small minority, but it is a huge cloud hanging over our heads......
12/11 build. 9300 miles. Just had head replaced. Engine light never came on but had the loud engine tick from left side head. Took three days and also replaced a leaking frnt axle seal. Engine is now quiet with no noise as it should be. Runs smoother and can tell the diff already.
