Default Tire size question

I have a stock JK Sahara with 4.10 gears and stock Duelers on 18" rims.

Does anyone know how going to Duratrac 275/65/18 or a 33" tire (275/70/18) would effect my gas mileage?

I'm sure it will drop, but trying to figure out how much to see if it would be worth it. I drive in the highway a good bit.

You'll be fine for power but yes the mileage will drop. I went from being able to push around 22 mpg fully stock to 19 mpg if I baby it on the highway. You are lucky to have the 4.10's. I ran 275/65/18 Duratracs for a while and now run 33x12.5x15's. No contest offroad between the duelers and the Duratracs.

Thanks! That is helpful. I'd be willing to take that kind of loss. Maybe mine wouldn't be quite as much with the 4.10 gears.

I'd try the Duratrac's in 285/70/##

I have them in 17" and I am pretty happy with them

On that one change alone I would expect less than 1 mpg loss

What motor and trans are you running? That will be a big determining factor in what kind of power loss you'll see. The new 3.6L Pentastar motor has an awesome amount of power for a Jeep. The older 3.8 is kind of sluggish in the power department, however the 4.10 gears will really help out.

I would expect you to loose some power and maybe a MPG or two, but nothing too serious. I went from the stock 235's to a 33" tire and saw around 1 MPG loss in town and barely anything on the highway in my 2012 with the 3.6L

Hope this helps!

He has a 2007. I have the same year and did the same thing when I first bought my JK. I also had 4:10s. Your gonna loose a couple MPG. But its a jeep. You didn't buy it for gas mileage.

Yes, I have an '07 with the 3.8. I have made a few engine modifications that have helped it gain slightly noticeable power. I get between 22 and 23 MPG on the highway and usually close to 17 in town. Of course I didn't buy it for good gas mileage, but I'm also always looking to save a buck or two where I can.
