I just bought my first jeep end of this summer. My wife and I were at odds because she wanted me to get a four door. I just could not get over the look. To me they look like wrangler limo's unless you step up to a 35" tire. Another reason she wanted me to get a four door is we have a two year old. After test driving some two doors and proving to her I could put a car seat in the back she fell in love. So we got rid of the Xterra and got a 2012 sport.

I've waited a long time since having a little lifted geo tracker for Chrysler to give the wrangler a good drive train. Not to knock the 3.8 but an engine that was close in power to Nissan, Toyota, ford etc. I love the small wheelbase, interior and ride. I am glad they make a four door but I don't see one in my future. There is nothing else made in the US like the two door wrangler.

Had three 2 door versions from 87 to 94 then when the 06 4 door came out everyone and I mean everyone hated it! I thought it was actually nice looking ..then I took one for a spin...and purchased an 07 Rubicon 4 door steel blue and was amazed at it's behaviors (not like a jeep) more refined and predictable. No jumps over small bumps etc..longer wheelbase really did help it out a lot. Big draw back was the engine to me felt anemic and no excitement! Now this is my opinion...I had not lifted it nor had I done much off road with it so it is as i said my opinion and you probably get out what you put in. I had many issues with leaking tops both hard and soft...and some other minor issues..but I soon was rid of the vehicle and purchased an Audi 3.2 TTr which was fun for a while but soon was longing for the Jeep again ..I decided after 3 years of the Audi to take another look at the Jeeps and found one that I really liked ( 2012 Rubi manual) but I opted for the 2 door and am happy to be back in it. Never really needed the extra doors. The added plus is the pentastar engine really gives the Jeep that extra umph ...Haven't noticed a big improvement in gas mileage but wasn't really expecting it. The surprise is how differently the general public is now about the 4 door..I can remember the true Jeep aficionados really going off on how it was not a real jeep ..soccer mom ride.. blah blah blah......Fickle ....not much time has gone by and we have a whole new mind set . Jeeps(wranglers) to me 4 door / 2 door are the coolest trucks on the road imo ...Have had a love affair with them since I was a boy . Just glad they are still around.

I'm going from a 4 door to a 2 door as well. I don't need the room, its just the wife and myself and it sure is easier to get a 2 door in the garage and through the woods.

I'm actually going the other way because of the kids. My oldest can't wait to get her hands on my 2 door when I buy the new one.

I have gotten rid of two different CJ's that I really loved because of the room for gear issue. That's the only reason the 4dr is in my sights. I do think they look pretty bad a$$ when there lifted also.

And I'm just the opposite. I'm 43 and never owned a 4 door. I felt Porsche should have gone out of business when they put out that 4 door thing that was suppose to look like a 911.

I bought the JKU mostly because of my son. Much easier to fit his child-seat and some spare spare for extra stuff, since one of the plans was using the Jeep for trips.

The JKU also has a better behavior on highways. Meaning it drives more stable.

In my case I was also looking for an overland type vehicle, not a rock crawler.

So, the JKU became the natural choice.

As already mentioned, cargo room. With four people and a dog you can't fit a weeks worth of gear in a 2 door. Also, added towing capacity since we have a boat and hope to get a bigger one in the future.
