Default Windshield Noise?

Hey guys, so I brought my jeep in today for the 4th time for the rattle in my door, and also wanted to inquire about a whistle in my windshield, it usually only happens going at a low speed like 30-45mph..but anyways they said because I had not told them I had gotten it replaced they would have to charge me for taking it off to investigate and said I need to talk to the people who replaced my windshield! So I didnt know this, didnt even think ask prior to having them look at it but does anyone else have this whistle noise coming from there windshield? its pretty much a contant noise, I mean if I put my radio loud i wont hear it but, that is just masking the issue! This is my first jeep, so I dont know if it just comes with having it or it something to push the issue with. thanks guys!!

Mike

hmm, Didnt think about that. But would'nt the dealer have thought about that? what should I be looking for, or do if it is the case?

It's pretty common for second rate windshield installers to close the doors before the sealant has set and push air through that creates gaps to whistle.

It's also common for the JK to whistle from the windshield header/top. It's a design defect. There is a TSB concerning it.

After I had my windshield replaced, it started doing exactly this. even does it with the top down. I plan on having it resealed.

hey saltman, its funny you say "second rate" becasue they actually had to replace my windshield twice because it wasnt done right the first time and I had a bad leak! so should I try just reseating the freedom panels and see if that works? I hate the dealership!!

You can try putting some masking tape over the gap in the windshield b/w the glass and the frame. Then drive the Jeep. If the noise goes away it's likely the windshield. If it doesn't it's probably the top or the header seal.

Mine whistled ever since the windshield was replaced. They have removed and reinstalled it twice. Still does it. Masking tape proved it is the windshield, not the freedom top panels... Finally said screw it...

I had major wind noise when going on the high way. It sounded like there was a hole where my top meets my windshield. On a recent trip up north i fixed this at a rest stop. I unhooked my soft top and wrapped a zip tie around the metal bracket on the jeep that the soft top hooks on to. I wrapped it enough so that the whole bracket was covered. I latched the soft top back on and that 1mm difference works wonderfully.

Before, At 75 mph I could not even hear the person sitting next to me. Now I can easily reach 80 with almost no noise. The couple of times when i reached 85 I still only hear little noise. (yaya, I no im going too fast for a jeep, but i have a heavy foot on long trips)

I know you said this happens to you at low speed but if it ends up being the connection between the top and windshield, its worth giving this a shot. It takes 5 mins.

Excellent idea1

I too can get lots of wind noise depending on the angle of the wind outside toward the Jeep. I like this idea. Gonna do it.

for what its worth, I have heard tons of horror stories about windshield replacement. I had to have mine replaced right after I bought it when a pallet flew off a truck on the freeway and smashed into the corner of the windsheild smashing it. (BTW, the driver of the truck gave me $700 on the spot to drive off). I called a mobile truck to come to my house, and in about 45 minutes he had it replaced and I could not tell if from new. No weird noises, no damage and only cost $165
